Title: How much is too much HRT ??
Post by: kathie22 on May 06, 2025, 04:43:34 PM
I am currently on Vagifem x 3 per week
Plus Estraderm patches x 2 per week added last month because of menopause symptoms reappearing
I had prolapse surgery 10 months ago but still have a lot of discomfort because of atrophy I’m wondering if I restart estriol cream external as well it would be too much oestrogen going into my system Have pretty much given up with the GP it’s just too difficult to get an appt having to go through the self referral process which hasn’t really got the right questions for this and you end up talking to the dopey nurse who knows nothing about these things
Any thoughts

If it helps using 10mg oestrogen pessaries regularly for one year is an equivalent dose of just one systemic HRT tablet a year.
Therefore I wouldn't worry about using as much of the topical treatment as you like to ease symptoms.

You haven't said what strength of patch you are on but it is almost certainly a very low dose, and the presence of vaginal atrophy tells you that you have very little estrogen being delivered to the tissues.

I would use what you need in order to adequately treat your condition, and don't give up advocating for yourself.

If the GP cannot manage your treatment, ask for a referral to the local menopause clinic.
