Title: Sore breasts
Post by: sadielouise78 on April 13, 2025, 10:56:36 AM
Hi. I've been on 2 pumps of Oestrogel and 100mg Utrogestan for about 3 months but for the last 3 weeks I've had really sore boob's. It's agony taking my bra off as they hurt so much. Is this common and why is it going on so long? Thanks.

I don't know where you are in peri/menopause but if you're still ovulating it could be that your own hormones have transiently spiked alongside the supplemental hormones.

If it continues I would think about switching to a progestin with diuretic properties such as Slynd, to combat the fluid retention.

Hi. I'm not really sure to be honest. I'm 50 and don't really have periods any more, possibly due to the mini pill. I went through a strange time in my early 40s where I had night sweats and brain fog but had to come off HRT (and the symptoms stopped) as my blood pressure went through the roof. Now I'm back on HRT due to losing a lot of hair and night sweats again. So who knows where I am?!

For me sore & swollen boobs were a sign of too much oestrogen (especially in peri). When I reduced HRT the pain went away and boobs resumed a more normal size and felt more normal (not so hard).

I have really sore breast mostly my right hand side.  Have iud fitted in place for last 12 months but with no oestrogen replacement. Anyone suffering with anything similar. Could this in my case be a lack of oestrogen ?

Hi Dotty, when you reduced the Estrogen did you reduce the progestogen too?

When I reduced the oestrogel (I got down to 1 pump) I still took the same utrogestan dose (2 x 100mg for 14 days if I remember rightly - sequi regime). As bombsh3ll alludes to, I think my problem getting on with HRT was that my own hormones have been widly fluctuating for years, so I could never get the balance right and I think I had too high oestrogen a lot of the time.

When I was on Evorel Conti patches (containing both oestrogen & progesterone - conti regime) I cut them in half.

So, in both cases, I think I was getting sufficient progesterone to cover the oestrogen.

Hope this helps.
