Hi all, I have been suffering terrible night sweats and multiple hot flushes during the day for around 6 weeks.
It was really bad, then all of a sudden they just stopped, that was over 2 weeks ago, is this normal? And are they likely to come back?
I have been taking magnesium for around 6 weeks and wonder if that's helped.
Any advice is appreciated.
I should add that I had a contraceptive implant in my arm until Decenber 24 and ive been told this can mask symptoms so I decided to get it removed and within 4 weeks I was a wreck but im ok now, I just wondered if its normal to be so bad then just stop!

Hi Lisawaugh. This happened to me during peri menopause when I was gearing up to a period, often after months without one, and then the flushes started again. My flushes/sweats were every 20 minutes. I'm not sure how old you are? It's a case of waiting to see what happens I think. Let us know! Fingers crossed the flushes stay away. Mine used to make me feel horrible.

Absolutely menopause symptoms can wax and wane, as hormones fluctuate during perimenopause.
However as everyone is different it is not possible to say yours will definitely come back.
The only menopause symptoms a contraceptive implant can mask is bleed pattern. It contains no estrogen and would not have been protecting you against vasomotor symptoms.
In fact it can suppress ovarian function if anything, so you may now find your ovaries have a bit of life left in them after all.

Hi, thanks for your help and advice, still no hot flushes etc so that's good as it really was awful. I've geared myself up to the fact that they'll likely come back but I'll cross that bridge etc etc, by the way I'm 54 in July and since I had the implant removed I've nit had any signs of a period at all.
Anyway, i have a follow up appointment with my doctor tomorrow so will hopefully discuss it further. I'll keep you posted if you like, thanks again xx
