Title: Stopping hrt
Post by: eileenbeattie on March 12, 2025, 01:48:03 PM
Good afternoon ladies

I've decided after speaking to my gp to come off hrt patches as I've had all kinds of symptoms since starting them over a year ago. My doctor advised me to cut the patch in half for a month and then to stop it all together. Last night I woke up to a fast heart rate which I used to have some years ago and seen cardiologists etc but heart normal except from occasionsl eptopic beats. Maybe it's just a coincidence but I'm thinking the cause is definitely hormonal. Has anyone else had the fast beats .

I think that palpitations are a symptom of peri/menopause.  Hopefully this will settle .

Not on HRT but have the palpitations, ecg fine so put down to menopause- it’s not nice at all. I have tried box breathing, I do this for a few minutes and it really helps calm me down, also grounding techniques are really good, they basically distract you out of the panic that comes (for me anyway) with the palpitations- if you Google both things there is good info about both. Hope it gets better for you - hug! X

Hi eileenbeattie - this is why I went onto HRT in the first place. I started having a racing heart especially at night that would last a few minutes then abruptly stop. I was getting up to 150 bpm and it was very disconcerting. I had all the cardiology tests but then found out I had dysautonomia with low blood pressure. What I think happens is the heart speeds up during a vasomotor episode as there is vasodilation. This is especially common with low blood pressure. Anyway I found Oestrogel really helped it and I rarely get it now although have dropped from 2.75 to 2 pumps recently. My uncle is a retired cardiologist and he said he saw many menopausal women with racey hearts that are episodic. It's the drop in oestrogen.
