Title: Skin tag type thing
Post by: Blot on February 20, 2025, 08:08:18 AM
Hi ladies.
I have had a skin tag or something for (I can’t even remember how long) maybe 20 years or more but of course it’s in an embarrassing place. Just inside my bum cheeks. It’s like a little pea, round and smooth and deflates a bit if you squeeze it.
I am going through a very stressful time at the moment, and my anxiety is sky high and I have just latched onto this for some reason after never giving it much thought at all.
Considering I’ve had it for so long, it’s unlikely to be anything to worry about  is it?
I dont to go and flash my bits at the doctors and I find it very embarrassing but I’m going to have to ☹️

Go to your GP Blot, they’ve seen it all.

If it's just inside your bum cheek it could be an external pile.  Especially if it deflates.

No it’s not near that bit so wouldn’t think it’s a pile. And the shape of it too.

It sounds like an epidermal inclusion cyst, more commonly called sebaceous cysts.

I've had/have several, including one in a more sensitive and embarrassing place than my bum.  ;D

Ooh that sounds impressive. Did you have them for 20 years though? 😬

I've had them all my life and they come and sometimes they go. If they don't bother me, I leave well alone.

If they start to hurt due to being irritated, a prod with a cannula and a course of antibiotics works. Done by the GP obviously.

I currently have one on my bum too. It's the result of a huge spot when my youngest was a baby - he's now in his 30's.  GP saw it and once I'd explained how I got it he just said to leave it as it wasn't doing any harm.

Good luck with your appointment tomorrow.  :)

Thank you. I’ve prodded and poked it so I’ve probably made things worse and inflamed it. It feels quite rubbery but firm 😳
Anyhow, I’ll let you know how I get on x

You flash that bum at the GP girl ;D

Don't be embarrassed. If you can talk about it with total strangers on the internet, them I'm sure that a medic who's probably seen more than you'll ever imagine will take it in their stride.

X

My son had exactly the same on his bum for years but recently had it removed because it was getting in the way. The hospital were great, they just got on with the job.
Another story, my friend is a nurse who had very bad piles and had to have them removed. She was asked if she wanted to go to another hospital because it would be her work mates that would be carrying out the procedure, she laughed and said no lets get on with it. It was all done in a very professional manner as you would expect.

Then there was the time I was in the waiting room in dermatology having the biggest laugh ever, this wonderful woman couldn't sit down and she told a room full of people why, it was because of a big fat boil on her bum, she didn't care because that's life!

The hospital staff have seen it all, relax and get this tag removed with no worries  :)

Thank you. People don’t tend to talk about such things do they?
My husband has offered to snip if off with a pair of pliers but I’ve declined 😬
And even he hasn’t seen it. Just never mentioned it before 😐

Just updating. It’s a skin tag and nothing to worry about. If it continues to be sore and doesn’t settle down, I can go back and it can be removed.

Glad you got over your embarrassment.  :)

Skin tags are probably easier to deal with than cysts. When we were in our teens, a friend had several skin tags on her neck removed. The doctor froze them off and she never felt a thing.

(Sorry for terrifying you with the thought of having a whacking great needle stuck in your bum  ;D)

The thought of having it cut off is more alarming lol. I’d have settled for a needle 🤣 And the doc was so nice I was hardly embarrassed at all.
Fingers crossed it settles down and I can go back to ignoring it.
