Title: New to HRT
Post by: Natbags on February 19, 2025, 04:01:00 PM
I have just received my prescription for patches and cream.
I am new to all this and daunted by the prospect of going on HRT.
Any advice about this new journey I am heading on or words of encouragement will relieve my fears of the unknown.
I am 47 and feel so out of my depth with all this.

:welcomemm:  think about why you feel that you require HRT .  Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress.

Which regime have you been prescribed?  Browse round, make notes ;-).  Let u s know how you get on.

You don't need to be afraid of hormone therapy, whilst it may seem like an unknown to you, those same hormones have been coursing through your body for many decades, and it is lack of them that can cause problems, not putting them back.

By the way you mentioned patches and cream - just make sure that if you have a uterus you are on some form of progestogen. Micronised progesterone in a cream (if that's what you have) is not suitable for endometrial protection.

Thanks so much for your kind words and encouragement.

In answer to question about regime, I will begin on patches called Evorel Sequi which is both oestrogen and progesterone.
The cream is for atrophy, which has been somewhat devastating (bit over dramatic), but that area had always worked very well.

I will begin tomorrow and keep you posted.

Hiya,

Me again....update on beginning HRT.
4 days in:
Achy limbs and nausea on and off.
Is this normal? Looked up on Internet and it appears so. Could anyone share their experiences with this?
Had a moment of panic last night, am I doing the right thing? Even felt like I was poisoning myself I felt so unwell. Praying that if I ride this out it will be worth it.  :)

Honestly, I would be really surprised if a 50mcg estradiol patch was the cause of that.

If anything were to cause side effects it is usually the combined patch which you take for the second half of the pack.

Whenever you are really apprehensive about trying something, the nocebo effect can be extremely powerful. This is a real, scientifically proven phenomenon that can result in not just symptoms but measurable changes in our physiology.

If you feel worried about taking the plunge, it is perfectly safe to cut the patch in half with scissors and begin with an even lower dose to get comfortable with it initially.
