Title: Feeling awful when ovulating
Post by: Katie1980B on January 31, 2025, 06:39:52 PM
Hi all

Just wanted to ask the group if anyone else feels absolutely horrendous when ovulating whilst peri?

I seem to ache in my joints, feel nauseous and crampy, and very headachey. My palps and night sweats seem to come on mildly as well.

Is it just me….is it “normal”. Feeling fed up with this rollercoaster.

Anyone out there going through anything similar?

I’m on hrt (Estrodot and utro).

Ovulation has been optional since about 1965.

Have you thought about using the combined pill? This is particularly effective if taken continuously ie active pills every day, and completely shuts down ovulatory function, adding back a stable daily dose of estrogen and progestin.

I personally haven't ovulated or menstruated since I was 29 except when I temporarily lost access to my pill during the pandemic.

There are progestin only options as well which can achieve the same effect, but would require the addition of an estrogen such as patch or gel for optimal health outcomes.

My theory is that there is some feedback system between ovaries and brain. During peri, this starts to fail - and causes all these symptoms especially at times of the month like ovulation and periods when it would previously have been really active.
