Title: Follow up with doctor after bleeding
Post by: sadielouise78 on January 14, 2025, 09:54:21 PM
So I'm following up after I had to stop HRT due heavy bleeding and a possible conflict with the Topiramate I'm taking for migraines.

I spoke to my doctor today who wanted to suggest trying tablets and patches but was convinced it would make any difference with the bleeding.

I basically told her what I wanted to do. One of the other doctors had been trying to get me to come off the Topiramate (which is the obvious conflict as the mini pill doesnt work whilst taking them) so I suggested this with a view to then starting the same Oestrogel and Utrogestan again. It's been agreed to ween off the Topiramate then start HRT again.

I'm really grateful for the advice on here as my doctor didn't know. I said I'd been on here and taken advice from some really knowledgeable people on what the initial problem was.

Fingers crossed coming off Topiramate doesn't set off my migraines again!

Glad you are making progress.

Having stable, adequate levels of estrogen can also help reduce migraine frequency, so fingers crossed they don't return.

The goal with HRT in those with migraines (or any other condition exacerbated by hormonal fluctuations) is to maintain stable levels of estrogen and progesterone, not to resurrect your menstrual cycle, so continuous progesterone rather than cyclical is more appropriate in this instance even if you are not yet postmenopausal.

Thank you. That's a good point and a good reason to keep with the continous progesterone then if I can. Fingers crossed this works.
