Title: Morning after pill and hrt
Post by: Tulip256 on January 12, 2025, 07:44:50 PM
I have been on hrt for 3 years, evorel 50mg and uttogestan 200 12 days a month.

Due to a failure of contraception I had to take the morning after pill today, Levonorgestrel

I am due to start my 12 days of utrogestan today. Does anyone know if it is OK to take this with the morning after pill or whether I would be better skipping it this month? It is my understanding that the morning after pill is a synthetic progesterone so would it be better to avoid taking even more progesterone this month? I am wary of making my periods too heavy as my iron is low.

Is there any info in the leaflet in the box?  I suggest that you ring the pharmacy in the morning .......

Thanks for your reply. It is not listed as having an interaction. I asked the pharmacist when collecting it and he didn't know either.

I would take your progesterone as usual.

If you skip it, you are likely to have an even heavier bleed next month.

The morning after pill is not suitable for endometrial protection, you still need the progesterone.

However nobody needs to be having periods at all in 2025 unless they want to, and especially if contraception is an issue you may have a better quality of life by taking a combined pill continuously or a contraceptive progestin such as desogestrel 150mcg or slynd in place of micronised progesterone, alongside your estrogen.

This could have you bleed free, hormonally stable and protected against pregnancy.

The Pharmacist could have looked it up!
