Title: Breakthrough bleeding on HRT - timescales for investigations
Post by: Teresa on December 19, 2024, 11:18:29 AM
Hi All,

I’ve just experienced some breakthrough bleeding after being on a regime of continuous HRT for nearly three years. I’ve been in Lenzetto for the past 18 months, which has really helped me and I have a mirena coil for 18. Ones. I suspect there is an imbalance somewhere. During the past three years, I’ve had breakthrough bleeding twice, both which ended up with hysteroscopies and neither found anything untoward.

I’m initially seeing a GP this afternoon and I suspect she’ll refer me for a scan. I know that then a hysteroscopy is likely to follow. My question is, has anyone in the SE Essex area recently awaited an initial scan and hysteroscopy for a similar thing and how long was the timeframe of waiting? I have a heart procedure booked in hospital on 24/1 under general anaesthetic and won’t be able to do a lot for at least a fortnight after, so I’m now a bit concerned.

Previous scans and hysteroscopies were carried out within a six week period, but I might be asking a bit much at this time of the year…

Thankyou in advance.

If you have a mirena and previous negative investigations it is unlikely your GP will have referred this under the "urgent suspected cancer" pathway, which it sounds like you may have experienced last time.

A routine ultrasound is appropriate and is likely to show a thin endometrial lining with an IUS, which shouldn't require a hysteroscopy.
