Title: Lower abdo cramps and painful breasts with IUD
Post by: Macbaby on December 17, 2024, 03:58:34 PM
I had the IUD fitted 18 months ago and now only take 2 sprays of Lenzetto daily and vaginal oestrogen twice per week. I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst but discharged  after a year and repeated scans showing very little change .
All was well until couple of weeks ago when I stared having constant period like cramping lower abdo pain and painful breasts .
Could this mean the coil is no longer working ?
I’m 59 and post meno for 5 years

The IUS doesn't just stop working.

It releases sufficient progestin to protect against estrogen induced endometrial proliferation for at least 5 years.

However it is possible for it to migrate, or be expelled.

Can you still feel the threads?

The other possibility is that your symptoms could be related to either a change in your existing ovarian cyst, or the development of a new hormonally active cyst.

If this doesn't settle I would make an appointment with your GP.
