I have been taking Lansaprazole 15mg daily for the past 3 years because of a hiatal hernia. At the beginning I had a sore tongue and was told that it was a side effect of the tablets. Eventually it eased off but has come back and been going on for the last 6 weeks. Has anyone ever had this?
I have decided to wean slowly off the Lansaprazole to see if I can manage the acid reflux without taking the tablet. After one day my tongue is even more sore. I have read that Lansaprazole can reduce B12 levels but the GP has never said I need regular checks. I am now not sure what to do and whenever I speak to the GP I feel like he is not listening and says there is nothing to worry about but why is my tongue sore?

MayB see a Pharmacist at your Chemist or make an appt with a dentist who will check your whole mouth. I've not had problems with the sister drug, other than when I run out I get fierce heartburn >:(
Milk of Magnesia to hand. I bite my tongue often so that explains my problem :-\
Let us know how you get on.

Are you having any other symptoms that might suggest you are deficient in B12? If so, I would ask your GP to do a blood test. It is not an unreasonable request, particularly if you find you need to stay on a PPI to control your reflux. If they are still dismissive, and you have ruled out other possible causes, you could consider doing a blood test privately through a company such as Medichecks for about £40.00.

I am on PPI's long term and because of this I take B12 supplements, I didn't bother to take any tests just bought the tablets along with other vitamins and supplements to keep away any possible side effects of taking the PPI's'.
I remember having a sore tongue when I first started to have digestive issues but have been ok in recent years, whether its the supplements or not I do feel a heck of a lot better since taking them.

I take multi vitamins but checked the label this morning and the B12 is not very high so am going to try B12 and vitamin D so hopefully they will help.
Thanks for the advice

Always buy the individual vitamins and not in a multi form, multivitamins really are a waste of money from my experience.

Agree with that. They often use poor quality vitamins that are not very well utilised by the body.
