Title: length and frequency of hot flashes?
Post by: Maruuna on December 04, 2024, 07:57:52 AM
dear community,

I have searched the forum about hot flashes of course, but I haven't really found anything about the frequency and lenght of them. What are your experiences concerning that?

I am almost 46 now, my periods went irregular last year (period coming every two months mostly, then normal 30 day cycle in between) and my hot flashes come in spurts, is that normal?
I had a phase of several weeks this May/June, so hot flashes and night sweats for about 3-4 weeks without any pause. And I mean all day through, like every other hour, then cold shivers in between, then hot again. Going to bed and waking several times a night sweating and feeling very hot. That lasted without pause for about 3-4 weeks in May/June when I had a very elongated cycle (70 days) in the last weeks of that cycle. Then, no hot flashes for half a year now, all was normal, although I had another 60 day cycle, but no flashes.
Now, half a year later, I am on my 66th day of a rather long cycle again, and now I am having the flashes again, and had them for the past two weeks or so on end, no pause, night and day, all the time.
Did anyone else experience that? I mean that they don't stop night and day and come in these spurts for weeks and then vanish for several months?

Thanks for your input as always!

Morning.  I believe that flushes can happen quickly, be prolonged, disappear, reappear ......... I think that it depends on how your hormones are .  What R your periods up to?

well, as I said, irregular since last December or so, elongated cycles of 60-70 days, then a normal 30 day cycle in between then elongated again - or what did you mean?

There is no easy answer to your question as we are all very different when it comes to the start of the menopause and its symptoms, hot flushes were the only reason I went on systemic HRT because they were making me exhausted and not able to function properly.
I stayed on it for five years and it worked to relieve the worst of the flushes and I never looked back with having a good menopause thereafter.

There is a new drug to specifically target the effects of hot flushes, you might want to research that as not sure of its availability.
