Title: Sertraline
Post by: Michelle46 on November 14, 2024, 02:55:19 PM
Hi there.
I was on sertraline years ago for anxiety. I remember there being horrible side effects but I forgot. However on day 14 of getting on them again and the increased panic and sickness is awful. I know it takes a few weeks to settle. Anyone else on this and found similar?

Yes,me, I couldn't stomach them at all,bad enough having anxiety but then throw nausea into the mix and it was a big no no.
Can you half the dose and gradually increase?

I did wonder if I should reduce a little

Glad to see this topic pop up. Not glad you're having problems though.

I switched to sertraline from escitalopram in July (for anxiety). The nausea was awful for the first 2 weeks and got a bit better after that. But I'm so jittery and I tremble a lot. Apparently it's a common side effect. I also started having terrible night sweats which I assumed were hormone-related, but apparently it's common with sertraline as well.

I'm on 150mg though, so I'm probably feeling the worst of it. Going to try to reduce the dose in a few months. But it's hard to tell if the "wired" feeling is sertraline, anxiety or even HRT.

Trials of perimenopause I guess

Sounds awful.
I’ve got two boxes of sertraline in my drawer; not touched them. I just can’t afford to be a jittery nauseous wreck at work. I’ve upped my amitriptyline, so hoping that helps instead!

God if never ends 🙈

The sweats are a common side effect. Luckily I don't get that. I'm persevering for another 2 weeks. Most people say it does get a lot better by 3 to 4 weeks. I've been given a small amount of diazepam to get through the bad effects

These medications can have severe side effects, I was unable to tolerate any on the list in the 1980s, fortunately my GP found 1 that didn't make me nauseous.  No way could I have continued  :'(  :-\

Escitalopram 5mg at breakfast, 10mg at night.
I have an emergency tablet to take when anxiety floors me.

I never had to take Sertraline ........ my friend however did well on it and didn't report side effects after 8-10 days of starting it, nausea I think.
