The Ask for Angela initiative, a project in place at thousands of venues nationwide, aims to provide a discreet lifeline for people who believe they are in danger.
Those with such fears are advised to use the code word "Angela", to indicate to staff they are in need of help.
-
In my voluntary work in stadiums and concert venues we are reminded of this before every duty.
Really good initiative and I've heard of it being used successfully .
-
:thankyou: how does the initiate work after someone has requested help? Who is involved, Police the 1st responders?
-
Is this a replacement for ask for ANI (Action Needed Immediately) in pharmacies? I have just looked that up & it seems to have been discontinued from Nov 4th 2024.
-
Appears to be for bars, venues etc.
-
ANI is for those in danger from domestic abuse .
Both would be useful in Vet Surgeries too.
As an aside, did any1 watch The Queen talking about domestic abuse on TV this week?

Not much use if discontinued.

Nor if the establishments that support these ideas don't have signs up!

Ask angela is more for people that feel unsafe with an unknown, for instance a creep in a pub continually hitting on you and may be insistent on you leaving with them.
If someone asks for Angela then a staff member would take the person out through the back and get them into a taxi or if necessary if feared maybe someone has been spiked then police may be called.

Why aren't these ideas more widely published :-\ I need to have a lookC when out and about.

It's been around for a while. This video seems to show that it's not always working though https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c789nn3d918o

I've seen it advertised in motorway services

:thankyou:

A lot of pubs, particularly town centre ones, have posters on toilet doors giving information.
-
I have seen posters of this on toilet doors in some of the larger pub groups
-
R U seeing these in Towns/Cities?
-
It was shown on a TV show about a year ago, but I can't recall which one - meno brain :P

R U seeing these in Towns/Cities?
Yes in both towns and cities
-
Yes I've seen it many times over the years. As has been said there is often a poster on the back of toilet doors in different places from motorway services to village pubs. It's such a shame that it's not being used properly in that staff are sometimes not made aware. This is about the Ask for Angela scheme which has been running for eight years now! https://askforangela.co.uk/

Maybe nobody's bothered to do it in your area? Businesses can easily download the info from the site https://askforangela.co.uk/downloadable-templates/. It's still no good though if staff aren't being trained :-\
