Title: nocturnal paresthesias/ pins and needles at night
Post by: Lavender Girl on November 07, 2024, 06:30:35 AM
hi all,
Hope you're all doing well.

I'm peri, and have been having nocturnal paresthesias for a few years
I put it down to poor sleeping position, I sleep on my left side always, I also have a body pillow to help align my spine etc and I keep my arm slightly raised off my body as I found not knowing where to put my right arm was part of the problem - I'm aware that sounds weird! haha

I had it really bad last night woke a number of times.  I am doing a more manual job lately, landscaping etc, but as I said it's only been the last few years and this job is only recent, so I just wondered if it could be linked to hormones.
Feel like maybe worse since being on my HRT..

No issues in the day time.
Anyone else have this or can share knowledge?
thanks a million
Oh and my recent blood test shows I'm very high in vitamin b12, I think this is due to a peri supplement I was taking for a few years before HRT.  Don't know if that might be part of it.
x

It could be carpal tunnel syndrome, do U have to hang the arms over the edge of the bed?  There is a simple test to find out.  It's common during pregnancy so obviously hormonally linked though men do suffer too.

Ask your GP for advice.

Yeah thought of that, it's sporadic, but probably more so when I've been using a strimmer!
Put some compression gloves on yesterday which helped a bit I think.
Cheers I will do

Let us know what the diagnosis might be?

This is very much one of my peri-menopause symptoms. My hands going numb in my sleep, then I wake up due to this.

It has got a lot better since I increased estrogen.....

It is very very likely hormonal. Don't go chasing ghosts with loads of other investigations if you know you are in peri. Consider an increase in E.

Thanks Joziel,
Yep I never linked it to my peri .. but now I think about it, it's definitely only been the last few years and that all adds up.

Will look at that, thank you.
