Title: Vaginal atrophy - end of my tether!!!
Post by: Bella247 on October 08, 2024, 07:22:30 PM
I’ve had VA for a few years.

First I used Ovestin. It worked for a couple of years then seemed to stop.

Then I tried Vagirux- it didn’t work at all.

Now I’m using estriol twice a week (and every other day on the vulva which is where it seems worst) on the advice of a Gynecologist. This seemed to be working ok alongside olive and bee every time I went to the loo.

I had a flare up a couple of weeks ago and did a loading dose for a week which seemed to work.

Now I’m having another flare up and I’m well and truly fed up.

I do not know what else I can possibly try??????

Hi, just read your post as I am in a similar situation and was searching for advice on the forum. I am in the midst of a flare up and am taking vagifem every day - usually take it twice a week. when i looked back I realised that its nearly 2 years since i had a flare up, which isn't bad I suppose, but when you're in it its so debilitating and you just don't know when its going to end! I was looking for helpful supplements and am considering Jude- I know its bee hyped by Dragons den but the independent feedback also seems good. How did you get on?

Why not use it every day?

It isn't radioactive, there isn't even any significant absorption once the tissues are healthy.

Also there is prasterone - this seems to help a lot of people. I am not sure about availability on the NHS.

Finally are you on systemic estrogen? Topical treatment can only do so much, and unless you have a medical contraindication I would seriously consider why not, when it has so many health benefits.

When I had VA, I was using Vagifem every night and Ovestin twice a day (Am and PM) followed by Olive and Bees and/or YES moisturiser.

There is also Intrarosa you can try which is DHEA and can be converted to testosterone by cells in the vagina. Sometimes testosterone helps VA more than estrogen.

Since getting my systemic HRT estrogen dose up, I don't need anything local. Phew.

Hello Bella, I have to use estradiol daily and Ovestin twice a day too. My VA is finally under control for the first time in about 14 years. But I have been on testosterone now for 4 months and I don't know if that helps VA but it does help bladder issues, which I also had. My sensitive urethra and bladder are much more comfortable.
I'm going to continue with my daily regime for another couple of months and then try dropping down to 5 times a week. I doubt I'd drop below that as I dread a flare up.
Hope that helps give you an idea what you need.

I’m on Intrarosa/Prasterone and do get it on the NHS from my GP. I find it works well. I did have a flare up recently in the form of a UTI, but anyone can get a UTI at anytime. Mostly I’m good and free from pain or irritation, can have baths and wear jeans.

For those of us unable or don't want to use systemic HRT the only solution is to use more topical treatment. After three years of being symptom free I am having a bad flare up which is soul destroying and means having to use extra treatment.
Vagifem every day as usual but a smear of Estriol three times a day instead of twice which seems to be calming things down, I have a vagina that is still talking to me but she's not shouting, the bitch!!
