Hello fellow VA sufferers, I wondered if you could share how often you have a flare up of symptoms and how long it lasts for? When you read or listen to anything about being treated with vaginal oestrogen it sounds like so long as you are consistent with your treatment you don’t have any more issues. This has not been my experience. I have been on treatment for 18 months and am just having my second flare up, my first was after 8 months of treatment and lasted for 3 months.
I’m also wondering if this will settle down to a more reliable state once I’m postmenopausal? I’m only 50 and still peri, could the hormonal fluctuations be making my situation more difficult?
Thanks crew x

As I asked in my thread, R U using appropriate vaginal atrophy treatment every night?
I got lazy about treatment ........ and didn't recognise my flare up symptoms soon enough as they were this time different >:(. In general if I get the tight feeling under my belly button and insert estriol ASAP and another at night, the situation is relived within 24 hours.

Hi CLKD,
Yes, I’m religious about my treatment, I Intrarosa every night. I had about 3 weeks in June when it was out of stock so I used Vagifem then, but yes, every night for me.

Flare ups don't last long for me and they are very rare now after four years of treatment.
Perhaps you need two treatments and not just the pessary, I am assuming Intrarosa is a pessary, and you might need the addition of Estriol cream to use on the outside.

Only occasionally now I take Vagifem daily and Estriol externally daily too. My flare ups are not from a change of dosage or medication but stress, dehydration and sitting for long periods ie long flights will cause a problem. I just double the dose for a few days and it usually sorts things out. If I'm really sore I've got Dermovate cream that works very well. Thrush messed things up for a while last year too.

Thanks for the replies. Yesterday I doubled up and did Vagifem plus Intrarosa, and am doing Intrarosa morning and evening today (it’s a waxy pessary that melts and is quite soothing). I am sooo much better than yesterday. Fingers crossed it was a short flare up.
How are you today CLKD?

Much better :thankyou: I didn't do a treatment last night, feel off to sleep fast ::) so will lay out the kit for use later.

I’ve had a horrible 12 months with constant flairs lasting days at a time
Diagnosed with rectocele prolapse and VA at the same time. Nothing worked Did all my own research and found Intrarosa GP clueless Eventually saw a Specalist Dermatologist who said mild VA Vulvodynia and prolapse and gave me a treatment regime to follow
Things did calm down a lot My flair ups became less I did find I needed to keep well hydrated at all times Also stress made things worse
However although I don’t deny I have VA since I have had surgery and the constant crushing of my urethra has stopped I have no symptoms at all !! It’s bliss Just the occasional fidget which passes Not saying I’m cured but curious as to this apparent change and what level I actually have
So I would say lots of fluid Barrier cream after every wee and Intrarosa daily
