Title: Marmite
Post by: CLKD on September 22, 2024, 12:27:29 PM
;D.  I'm eating quite a lot ....... to fill the energy gaps because dates gave me ........  :-X in the bowel department .

So: hate it or love it; how do U eat it?   My current choice is thickly sliced toast with butter followed by Marmite; or without butter at all.  It's a job getting the product smeared thinly though  ::)

On hot buttered toast, thinly spread. 😋

On cheese on toast, or rather on the bread under the cheese on toast 👍

When FinL came back in August 1945 after being 'in the care of the Japenese, 'helping' to build a railway, every1 was given a small pot of Marmite and a packet of fags.

Under cheese - now there's a thought.  :thankyou:

I love sprouts, slightly salted and simmered for a few moments.  Drained. They continue cooking in their 'shells'.  Covered with butter and black pepper.

Avocados take a lot of water to grow so aren't really a 'green' fruit when picking and travel costs are considered.  I still don't know whether I like them  ;D

They grow abundantly in Zimbabwe where I sent some time in my youth, had a tree and they just fell virtually on to my plate, so was pretty “green” when I used to eat them!

My Aunt was from Southern Rhodesia as it was so cousins half African.  My eldest cousin has the country in his blood, feels like he's 'come home' on landing at Nairobi.

Hi Lesred, I had a friend from Zimbabwe years ago who used to make bacon & banana sandwiches - that lovely sweet & salty combo.  I never knew whether it was peculiar to her family or a Zimbabwe thing?  Your posting here reminded me of it  :).

Marmite is my go-to when I feel down.  For me it should be white bread, toasted and slathered in Cornish butter and a mediumish amount of the good stuff spread on top.. mmmm

We already knew that Soldiers in the Great War were given pots of Marmite in their rations as well as Prisoners returning from the Far East had a small pot as well as a packet of 12 cigarettes on disembarking from the US in August 1945.

DH was reading that it's also good for treating anaemia.  mayB something, if 1 likes the stuff, to consider if 1 feels that iron supplement doesn't suit?

Stuffed now.  marmite on toast with tomatoes for lunch  ::)

Taz, though thankfully not coeliac, I was WF then GF for a decade or more on gastroenterology advice, making a vast array of delicious foods suddenly verboten & smashing with one blow my recipe repertoire compiled over 3+ decades  :'(.  Violins please  ;)  I hadn't noticed Twiglets in the shops in recent years.  Are they still available?
