Title: Running
Post by: Jellyb on September 15, 2024, 06:51:14 PM
Anyone else on here into running?
I did the NHS Couch to 5k app last Sept & have just continued to run. I am amazed at how much it has benefitted me both healthwise & mentally.
I'm 52 & the fittest I've been since school! Totally obsessed with it. Took part in a 10k race today & am currently training for my first half marathon which is in October.
Would love to hear from any other ladies who run.

Well done you 👏 I used to love running,I'd do 5k 3 times a week, absolutely loved it but then one of my discs herniated in my lower back and I was told to stop, I miss it every day, nothing quite like it is there x

That's a shame Jaypo, must have been very painful for you though.
I do get grumpy if I can't run for a few days!  Is there any way that you'd be able to get back into it, gentle running or the Japanese Slow Running method?

Oh Jellyb,it was the worse pain I ever had,so I'm scared to try it again   :'( I get what you mean if you can't run for a few days,I'd be out in all weathers, just loved it. I am tempted to try it again but then I think of the pain and that's enough to stop me  ;D keep on running Mrs,it's good for mental health too  :)

Such a shame that you can't get back to doing what you loved.

Google Japanese slow running, see if it might be gentle enough - it's basically just shuffling!
Yes, it's definitely good for my mental health.  :)

That was so interesting Jellyb, especially about the NOT landing on your heel, I had the best running shoes you can get but still I got injuries, you know, I might just try that Japanese running  : it's not that dissimilar to fast walking really.
Thank you  :-*

Excellent! Glad you found it interesting.  Hope you manage to get going again, albeit in a different way.

Yes I am . I started running at 62 and completed my first half marathon last October aged 68 . Love running and it’s made such a difference to my mental health . My menopause gyne was convinced it’s what kept me strong .

Well done Borchesterlass. I don't know what it is about running but it just gives me so much pleasure, I'm addicted! I started a couple of years ago age 51. Have done a few half marathons & have another later this year. Keep on smiling and mileing!
