Title: Post mirena coil and bleeding
Post by: PK39 on September 07, 2024, 05:19:30 PM
Hi all
I had my mirena coil removed on Monday after having it a few months. I use two pumps of estrogel and will be starting progesterone for two weeks a month. I am not due to start the progesterone yet, I want to take it in line with my cycle. Since having the coil removed I have had moderate bleeding which is expected but today I passed a largish clot maybe the size of a grape. Does anyone know why this could happen. I am not bleeding heavily and no other issues.
Thanks

It is likely just withdrawal bleeding as the progestin has been taken away.

The same happens when any progestogen is taken for a while then stopped.

This should settle in a week or two.

It isn't a cause for concern unless you have any other symptoms like pain, fever, offensive discharge or heavy/ persistent bleeding.
