Title: P.O.I. and Continuous HRT
Post by: carolinesmith1972 on August 30, 2024, 10:01:59 PM
Hi folks, sorry if this is a bit long...

I had P.O.I. (Early menopause) 13 years ago and went on HRT which I was told would start me ovulating again.  Then at 51 I was told that wasn't right and I hadn't ovulated at all and was post-menopausal 🎉 so they put me on continuous HRT when you're not supposed to have bleeds.  But I am having bleeds.  They've scanned me and I don't have endometrial cancer so why am I still bleeding - could I actually still be ovulating 😞

Hi Caroline, I had the same POI in my early twenties and went on HRT in my early 30’s for over 10 years. A year ago I went onto continuous HRT and was fine until last month when I started bleeding again with no explanation… I think my HRT may have stop working and I need to up my dosage…I am 45

Your dosages probably just need tweaking.

I am sorry you were led to believe menopause hormone therapy would restore your fertility, that was cruel.

If your estrogen dose is clinically adequate then increasing the progestogen is usually the first step.

I went through pof at age 36 and was put on 100mg patches sequi, all was fine for 13 years then I started having heavy bleeds and clots, scan showed a very small fibroid and the consultant said because of my age 49 at that time that 100mg was too high and it was reduced to 50mg all was fine for 3 months then I started bleeding heavy again she then changed me to continuous at the age of 51, 25mg evorel patch and 100mg utrogeston continuous, the first 3 months my periods were irregular but so much lighter now they have stopped (I hope)
