Title: 200 utrogestan pessaries
Post by: Seniz on August 21, 2024, 05:20:05 PM
Hi :)

I have a question for the ladies who are on 100mg utrogestan or 200 utrogestan pessaries. During those 12 days you are using utrogestan have you noticed any side effect ? especially emotional or physiology ? (reason for asking that i noticed myself,  I become easily to cry or got nervous and anxious)

I have been on  Estradot 50mg + 100mg x 2 tablets vaginally last couple of years and new meno specialist wants me change for 200mg  pessaries.

Many Thanks

These are well known side effects of progesterone although not everyone gets them. Pharmacologically this models PMS, so those who used to suffer mood symptoms premenstrually seem more susceptible.

I can't see how switching from two 100mg capsules to one 200mg capsule will make a difference assuming you aren't changing the route of delivery eg from oral to vaginal or vice versa.

It may be possible to take 100mg continuously instead rather than seesawing between none and 200mg. This may improve tolerability.

Otherwise I would think about changing to a different progestogen such as the mirena IUS or an oral synthetic progestin.

There's also the combined patch which may be suitable.

I've used both 2x100 and 1x200 vaginally. I can't tell any difference between them, as far as I'm concerned they're both the spawn of the devil  >:(.

Hi sheila99 :)

I known what you mean. I am agree.

After 6-7 years of using  2x100mg utrogestan tablet new meno specialist telling me is not suitable for vaginally.
GP says he cant give me 200mg utrogestan pessaries :)

Lets see what will happen

many thanks for your reply

It's a bureaucracy problem not a medical one, either will do the job. Unless they're watching they won't know how you take them...  :)

What sheila99 said!!!

Ditto have used both. First used the 200 mg when it was still licensed for HRT ( and used the "oral" ones vaginally as there is no difference in capsule. Then these were discontinued (for HRT anyway ie the packaging was discontinued - they were still manufactured and packaged and licensed for fertility treatment) so I changed to 100 mg (those pesky little balls) which were an absolute pain to insert - not painful but just awkward! Then after some bleeding and a hysteroscopy and biopsy the consultant recommended I be prescribed the vaginal 200 pessaries so I'm back on these again.... I did have an idea that the 200 mg ones might permit more progesterone to be absorbed ( due to lower surface area to volume ratio) - but maybe would only be marginal. Personally I don't seem to absorb as well as I used to or maybe there has been a change in the utro though I don't think this has happened recently (the suspension oil was changed a while back).
