Having a bit of a panic, hopefully you can talk me down.
I have been on continuous HRT since February, was on sequential previously. After initial breakthrough bleeding, I have felt great and thought I had finally cracked the HRT puzzle.
I am on Provera and there was a period of time when I had trouble getting it. When I was on sequential, I was taking 2 x 5mg for 14 days and the pharmacist could only get 10mg tablets, which was fine so I just took one a day.
Then I moved to continuous and only need to take 5mg a day.
What has happened is, the prescription must have changed to 10mg all the time and I stupidly didn't even check, so for, must be months months now, I think I have been taking 10mg a day instead of 5mg. ☹
I noticed when i picked up my last batch from the pharmacy and it says, "Half a tablet a day" on the label.
I can cut them in half as they are marked and have been doing so this week but feel rubbish. Headachy and a bit crampy.
I have been feeling so well, I'm scared I'm going back to the roller coaster of trying to feel half way normal.
Do you think I will settle on the lower dose eventually? It's what I should be on, so hopefully it's enough for my needs?
Sorry for the rant, I feel so stupid. It felt like I was getting back to my old self and now I think I have messed it up x

No harm done, and I would be really surprised if it was the higher than required dose of provera that was making you feel good.
Provera is not usually known for having any subjective benefits on wellbeing and is typically regarded as a necessary evil taken for birth control, bleed control or endometrial protection.
This will likely settle and if it doesn't I would maybe look at whether your estrogen dose is sufficient.
However if it genuinely is the case that you feel well on 10mg and unwell on 5mg, it is not the end of the world if that's what you have to take.
Metabolically not ideal, but quality of life has to be considered too.

Thanks for your reply.
I hated the Progesterone stage when I first started sequential.
When I started taking it continuously, I started feeling better and better and thought maybe, It was the progesterone I needed stabilising rather then the Oestrogen. But didn't realise I was taking more then advised.
I will see how I get on with the 5mg. At the moment, I'm feeling PMTish, which I assume is the drop in Progesterone. Hopefully, I'll settle on the 5mg.
The difference I have felt since going continuous is night and day to where I started. If it seems I need the 10mg to feel that way, I'm glad it is an option .
Thanks again 😊

Hi. the recommended dose of Provera for high doses of oestrogen is 10mg daily, so I don't think it will harm you if that suits you better.

Not sure, I think I only started one.
I'm on 1.5 mg of Sandrena, not sure if that is considered a high dose or not.
It's reassuring to know I have the option to go back up if needed.

The drop in dose might cause a bleed. Perhaps wait a few days before making a decision in case this is pms.
