Hello all - any advice gratefully received. I am 52, my periods had stopped March - July ( was starting the count down to one year) then bam have now had 3 periods since 9th July and all over the place with anxiety. Has anyone had this happen, is it normal or should I see my dr? thanks in advance.

Totally normal in perimenopause but that doesn't mean you just have to put up with it!
It's worth seeing your GP to discuss options, some of which can allow you to be completely bleed free.

Thanks for your prompt reply, I already take continuous hrt, I thought this was my only option? x

Hi who gave you the idea that your regime is the only option?
Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress and show to the GP or Nurse Practitioner.
My periods waxed and waned for several years: missing months then back ' regular ' B4 disappearing again. How do U feel overall?

Hello LuLuLu72
When I read your first post I assumed that you were not using HRT and that your periods were unpredictable because you were heading towards the menopause. However if you are using HRT the lack of periods and then three in quick succession may indicate that you need to see your GP and tweak your regime.
Hopefully other ladies will soon be along to advise you.
Take care.

If you’re taking Evorel Conti, this is known for this

Hello all and thanks for the replies :-) I take 2/3 pumps Oestrogel and 100mg of Utrogestan nightly. I was under the impression from my GP that periods stopped on this regime. I feel very well physically, I struggle with appetite but this is largely due to anxiety and low mood which are my main symptoms. Trying to get through this in a positive way but lately it has been feeling very hard due to the moods which I assume are due to massive hormone fluctuations. XX

Hello again LuLuLu72
My trusty meno book lists mood changes as a symptom of low oestrogen and this has been confirmed to me by various medics and an NHS consultant. I assume fluctuations don't help but apparently a low baseline of Oestrogen can also be the cause.
Six months ago my blood tests revealed a very low level of oestrogen despite being on HRT. I am very post meno so I am ruling out any fluctuations other than from the HRT itself. My nurse practitioner has said that she will try and get me on an even keel and I am due another blood test to see if my levels have improved.
Perhaps talk to your GP and explain your continuing symptoms, a blood test may reveal that you are not absorbing the gel correctly.
You have my sympathy regarding the moods by the way.
I have weathered many a meno symptom in the past but this one still bothers me and it is exhausting.
Wishing you well and take care.
K.

Thank you so much Kathleen, I appreciate your time. You have my sympathy too mood fluctuations are really soul destroying as they are so central to wellbeing. I hope you can continue to get solid help and an improvement.
I am going to go back to my dr and get some tests done based on the feedback from you and the others ( thank you all) and see where that takes me. It feels like a long battle and at 52 so many of my friends are already through the menopause.
Wishing you well and everyone else and thank you again x

Re the 3 periods in one month
Whether or not this indicates a need for investigation depends very much on where you were in menopause when you started HRT and whether you are still peri or post-menopausal. If you weren't taking anything else eg POP etc, then if you still had periods now and again and hadn't gone 12 months without a NATURAL period, then you were still peri.
Yes conti HRT ideally stops periods but can take up to 6 months and is unlikely to stop them if you are peri-menopausal. Once you have started hRT then the 12 month counting is irrelevant. In fact if you are post-menopausal and taking conti HRT then a doctor should be consulted well before 12 months if bleeding persists.
It is important to ensure the bleeding is not abnormal ie to get the oestrogen progestogen balance right - but as I said if you are peri-menopausal - it could just be your natural cycle.
If you are still peri then you could take the Utrogestan cyclically which should help make your bleeds predictable especially as you move further towards menopause. Equally a Mirena coil will more likely stop or drastically reduce any bleeding, once your body has acclimatised.
In addition it may well be that you are absorbing the oestrogen very well and that the daily dose of 100 mg of (?oral) oestrogen is insufficient to protect your womb However as others have said the low mood implies insufficient absoprtion, though if you are peri-menopausal your homrones will be fluctuating dramatically . However adding oestrogen is meant to cushion this to some extent.
Hope this helps
