Title: Bleeding and pain
Post by: Cal67 on August 08, 2024, 08:47:27 AM
Hi and thanks in advance for reading this as I feel I'm coming to the end of my tether.  My back story is I had the marina coil fitted a couple of years back and had bleeding a year or so down the line. All test done and came back clear. I started to bleed again and after some tests they said my coil has moved because of polyps. They where removed and sent for test (all clear) and a new coil fitted 30/4/24 I've had spotting since but this week the bleeding is heavier and cramps quite painful. I'm at a loss of what it might be. Could it be I'm just not suited to the coil? I've messaged doctors ,still waiting on a reply.  X

Can you feel the coil threads?

A lost coil (I don't mean inside your body, I mean one that has fallen out without you noticing) can  lead to a return of heavy bleeding.

Other possibilities are - your body just doesn't like or is taking time to get used to a foreign body in the uterus. This may settle with time.

Infection needs to be excluded, this can also cause pain and bleeding with an IUS.

Migration of the coil can also occur but is rare.

If you have any tranexamic acid you could take that whilst waiting.

Hi and thanks for the replies. Yes I can still feel the cord so I don't think it's that this time. I'm thinking maybe it's an infection as my discharge smelt a little stronger before I started bleeding. I can't get an appointment with my doctor until next Wednesday  :-\ Hopefully I'll cope until then.

Following on from my previous post. I've since been the doctors and it's seems my coil string can't be seen. It's either fallen out or moves. So now I'm waiting for a scan to see what's happening. I am against getting another coil fitted as I've had one move before. I can't take tablet form as it makes me very low in mood. But the doctor said the only options I have are tablet, coil or nothing at all and to stop using oestragel straight away. I thought their was more progesterone options. Can someone clarify please . X
