Title: Testosterone experiences?
Post by: oldlady1961 on August 04, 2024, 01:15:51 PM
I am on a testosterone trial for very low mood, and anxiety. My serum testosterone level was very low at 0.087 nmol/L and normal range is 0.101 to 1.42 (Private prescription of Androfeme 1% from a private meno specialist) I have been taking it as 0.5ml daily cream for 6 weeks. I have been told it can take 3-6 months to work. Has anyone here been on it? Does it really take that long? Should I persevere? No negative side effects at all I just don’t feel any better yet.

I have no personal experience with androfeme but I do take dhea for androgen replacement and I also went from very low testosterone levels similar to yours, to now being near the top of the female range.

Whilst I had no mood symptoms, it made a noticeable difference to both my physical and cognitive health over a period of a few months in multiple ways.

I even got my libido back which isn't why I was taking it but it's nice to have!

I would give it at least 6 months before writing it off, but would recommend taking a repeat blood test if you haven't already, to check that you are absorbing it and whether your dose needs increasing if you are still below the therapeutic range.

Hi there,
My T levels were 0.6 and the private specialist put me on androfeme, I was stop and start to begin with but felt it wasn't working so after being convinced to try again I tried it for 6 months but unfortunately it did not stop my anxiety and libido became all to much so I decided to stop it.my levels were 1.3 in the end .this doesn't mean it will not work for you as many women find it very helpful so I would give it a good go and after 6 month you do not feel any different then review it... :)

They sound more like oestrogen deficiency symptoms than testosterone to me. Do you know what your oestrogen levels are and have you tried increasing? My anxiety was oestrogen related.

Given the advice that it can take 3-6 months, it’s usually recommended to continue the therapy as prescribed unless you experience adverse side effects.

I started on testosterone due to low (non existent) libido and opted for Androfeme. It took about 3mths for positive effect on libido but I had noticeable improvement in motivation levels before that. What I called 'can't be arsed-ness' wasn't something I'd expected to be improved by T so that was a very pleasant surprise!

I'd say stick with it for longer (as long as you're not having negative side effects) and give it chance. A tube lasts about 3 months so maybe re-evaluate when you're close to the end of this tube?

Hope it starts to work for you!

Thank you everyone. No negative side effects no. I will continue to the 3 and even 6 months yes. Have another blood test after 3. I’ll check out the Hurdity thread. My oestrodiol levels are normal for my age 63 and two pumps- Oestrogel which worked perfectly before I was put on provera for 4 months - I only took it for two - for a PMB. It seemed to turn everything upside down as if Oestrogel was no longer working but yes I’m still absorbing it. Before this happened I was absolutely fine. I’m really struggling tbh.
