Title: Vaginal Atrophy..run out of options
Post by: Griffin2727 on July 19, 2024, 05:42:03 AM
Vagifem
Ovestin
Estriol cream
Estradiol pessaries
Yes
After another night in tears clutching a hot water bottle in the early hours I am hoping someone can help.
Diagnosed with va but cannot tolerate any of the above. Believe me I have tried but had to abandon due to all them causing severe increased pain. Left unable to lie or sit without this awful  burning pain. Gp only seeing emergencies .Where do I go from here?Anyone else been through this?

Sorry you're in so much pain.

Being in severe unrelenting pain that is stopping you sleeping IS an emergency - make a GP appointment. They may be able to get telephone advice from a gynaecologist, or at least arrange an urgent referral.

Believe me people make emergency GP appointments for much less and you absolutely deserve care for this.

Unfortunately though the NHS is really not in a good state and women's health isn't being given the resources it needs, so if it's at all an option for you I would think about seeing someone privately as you could try prasterone - I don't know if this is available on the NHS.

Also what about systemic treatment? Sometimes topical estrogen just isn't enough.

If you genuinely can't take systemic hormone therapy, ospemiphene may be an option.

Thank you for your wonderful kind replies. It is so reassuring that I am not alone in this.
I tried  weeks with Vagifem and then a similar timescale with ovestin but had  to give up when strong painkillers gave me vertigo. Only a couple of weeks with the rest as the burning pain was instant. I am so disappointed as I don’t understand why I am reacting like this when others have had such a positive response.
I really appreciate the effort that you have put into these replies..I can’t thank you enough for taking time to reply like this.
I will certainly investigate all your suggestions and they have given me hope and continue trying for a gp appointment as I am determined to find a cure for these symptoms .
Ps Apologies for the duplicate post..my only excuse is that I was groggy from lack of sleep!
