Hi ladies
Hopefully someone can help.
I have been on estriol 0.01% for 3ish years now. For a while now I've been using it nightly. I also have interstitial cystitis/pelvic floor dysfunction. My IC has been better last few months in that my pain has lessened but I feel like I need to pee all the time (i dont have any pain when peeing). After I pee 5 minutes later I feel like I need to pee again. I actually seen a GP today who is sending away urine sample but also prescribed tolterodine for OAB (I had tried vesicare + mirabegron but caused retention)
I have felt worse today in that I have felt I have wanted to go to the loo more. I have been keeping up fluid intake but wanted to ask do you think even missing one night of estrogen could cause the frequent urination to flare up as quickly as this ? I know some ladies on here need it nightly.
Any help would be appreciated Xx

Your GP should prescribe appropriate Vaginal Atrophy treatment, 'vagifem' and 'ovestin' are the usual ones. How is the estriol delivered, it may not be enough right now.. VA mimics repeated urine infection-type symptoms really really well! When I get the. need2P I take 'nurofen' 2 x 3 times a day to ease the nip as the flow shuts off.
Keep up with fluids but don't drink too much. The kidneys will continue to work harder if the body is dehydrated.

I've used the estriol (old gynest ) for ages now +has worked well. Just wondered if missing one night would cause this needing to pee feeling. It' feels like a UTI without painful peeing, just a pressure. It's not nice !!!
-
I doubt whether missing 1 night after all that time would have an effect.
If U have a feeling of pressure could you have the start of a prolapse which may be due to loss of over all oestrogen? [what's OAB]

Overactive bladder. I do have a mild prolapse but it hasn't worsened. I just want to pee all the time + can't get any relief 😞

Brownie, I’m feeling great empathy with you atm as I am also feeling that constant need to pee. It’s horrendous. I’ve reloaded my Vagifem and am applying estriol externally every night and some mornings. I’m watching this thread with interest. I hope you get some relief soon. I’ve had this feeling almost constantly for about 10 weeks. I’ve resorted to painkillers which take a slight edge off the need to pee.

Morning. Of course, over active bladder ::). txn.
Keep up with hydration and pain relief. Perhaps add a dose of VA treatment in the morning too for a few days as well as at night.

I've had more discomfort round there recently. I've just done a month of nightly vagifem, not inserting high up and I've used some estriol nigh and morning and I'm comfortable now.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I'm going to use the estriol nightly meantime. It's the big applicator so during the day not the best. Think flare might be linked to the interstitial cystitis too so plenty fluids is a must.

I only use estriol externally. Do you apply anything externally?

Just to add I know our summer is rubbish at the moment but it was certainly no coincidence that I got a flare up when we had those few days of high temperatures recently. It was mild but I have to use a little more Estriol when I sweat a lot in hot weather!

Good point Ayesha. When mine flared up, I'd been sitting in jeans on a high stool for 3 hours. I think that was the lack of air, the pressure on one place of delicate tissue and me not applying enough estrogen.

It is helpful to know these things girls - thank you x

I actually think my flare might have been linked to warm weather/high pollen count too.
I generally never need to use anything externally due to the estriol being in the bigger applicator it generally provides lots of lubrication. externally too if that makes sense.

It makes sense. Did U sleep?
-
A bit but not great.
Just drinking loads of water to flush out the bladder which usually helps.
I turned 50 + everything down there just went loopy !!!!

Really interesting reading all your comments and I can emphasise with you all. This hot weather isn't helpful for VA and bladder issues- mine gets worse too. I can't wait to get home and hose off in the shower. I've noticed that this summer, and I don't know what's changed except I'm not as hot overall, my crotch can sweat for England! I have to be really careful what colour clothes I wear now and it does seem I'm no longer sweating anywhere else, just there.
But it sounds like you're all experiencing that to one degree or other?
With regards to needing to pee frequently, I'm using estradiol every night and have been for a few months. The internal VA is hugely improved but like a number of you, I go to the loo and not long after have the need to go again. No pain when I pee, like you. I'd really hoped the increase in estradiol would help. It was lumped in with VA by the specialist but I wonder if it needs further investigation.
It's horrid, ladies, isn't it? I really feel for you all.
