Ended up in A&E last night. After I finished my evening meal I sat back and could feel my pulse racing and felt it was pounding hard. Took my pulse and it was sitting at 105-111 and took about 10mins to go back into the 70s. Didn't feel right after that, nauseous and preferred lying down. I called NHS 24 and was waiting on a call back but my OH came home so I decided to self present at A&E. Obs, ecg and triponin levels all OK so got discharged and to follow up with GP.
I was only at GP yesterday afternoon due to the stomach issues I've been having lately. Just handed in samples for helicobactor and the bowel screening test. Due to get bloods done on Tuesday.
I'm just over feeling this way, I'm so scared all the time when I feel even slightest of twinges, don't want to be an A&E frequent flyer.

How are you feeling now? Hope you are well and get it sorted out. Are you under a lot of stress lately? Never bother much about my health before, but having different symptoms with Perimenopause, they are affecting my health. Btw, do you have the Balance APP? I have found it is useful. Chat soon. ;)

Just feel like I've felt for months now, tired and preferably lying down, internal shakiness although not visible.
Won't get a GP appt til next week.
Been unwell since Dec when I wasn't under so much stress but last few months have been stressful as started a day release uni course at work, my dad got admitted for 14wks to sort our his dementia meds and my son had a big accident 3wks ago which required surgery and is still healing after a big infection.
I do have the balance app but not used it much.

This is likely all hormones, just to forewarn you. It sounds very similar to me. I also ended up in A&E after lying awake all night with my pulse racing and inner tremors/shakiness. ECG was normal although my BP was high (very unusual for me). They discharged me. That was 2.5yrs ago and it's been a battle ever since.
Are your symptoms worse at night?
-
Sounds like you've had an awful lot on your plate and it's taking it's toll. Anxiery can cause palpatations and racing heart especially under a lot of stress and panic attacks don't help. Stomach issues also can be stress related. Hopefully once things start to get back to normal at home and your stress levels come down you will be able to relax and feel better.

My BP was almost perfect. I'm getting full bloods on Tues morning and I've asked to repeat my vit d which was insufficient on March so going to check to make sure the doseage I'm on is correct. Have the GP on 08/07 when the bloods, helicobactor and bowel screening tests should all be back.
I would say most of my symptoms and anxiety are on waking(it's like I go into full conscious mood of does my body work and what feels weird) , evening time and occasionally as I'm trying to sleep.

I guess looking back now it is a lot I'm going though but at the time it didn't feel like it.
I think it could be a combination of a lot of things and perimenopause mixed in there for fun lol.

Yes, totally the think on waking is hormone related. I'm fine all day, except for trying to sleep or at night or on waking.
I wish they would do more research into all this...

I've just finished my 1st shifts back on the ward after 4wk absence. Speaking to the nurses of a certain age they all agree that alot of my symptoms are similar to their experiences but I've maybe just been unlucky to get them all. They all agree that anxiety is making things worse but that shouldn't discourage me from chasing my GP. They also agreed that health anxiety is seen lots in nursing as we know what can go wrong.
Last 2 days have been exhausting but I did them. There were times I thought I was going to pass out and times I was tempted to go check my obs 🤣
I wish they would do more research, so many women suffering unnecessarily.

I regularly had a racing heart during menopause - 150 was not uncommon. All your other symptoms are very familiar! If it's any reassurance your maximum heart rate (used for HIT training) is 220bpm - your age. You were safely below that.
Sounds very 'nervous system' and mine went haywire for years before and after meno.

Did things calm down? Did HRT help? I just want to have a day when I'm not feeling anxiety or having this internal shaking feeling or feeling like I'm going to collapse.
-
I'm sorry to say it went on for about 18 months but it did calm down. I couldn't tolerate HRT (and was advised against it after BC) so I did things to help my nervous system overall - acupuncture and cranial osteopathy. They gave me some relief. I avoid prescription meds as much as possible.

Had my follow up appt with GP today on phone regarding my trip to a&e plus all the test results.
Helicobactor and the bowel screening test both negative.
Bloods all clear except for bilirubin which is 30. She looked back all my previous results and bilirubin has never been in normal range. She is going to do a further blood test but thinks it might be Gilbert's syndrome.
She won't do hormone blood tests as I'm 45+4months. Won't speak about menopause as my periods are still regular, even though they only last a couple of days now and are very light.
She understands that I don't want sertraline as side effects are all the same symptoms I'm going to visit her about.
She has recommended I look at non medicated ways to control my anxiety.
-
Glad you are all clear with your bloods on the whole. Can I suggest for anxiety first aid some Clary Sage oil? It is sufficiently powerful that you are advised not to have it with alcohol. It works like a mild sedative but creates mild euphoria not drowsiness. I use it for MRI scans and hospital appointments and I am very claustrophobic so it definitely works!
-
Thanks, I will have a look out for that. I don't drink alcohol so not an issue.
I was given propranolol yes ago for mild anxiety but it made me heart rate drop to 46 so I didn't like it.

JS79, you have an outdated and ignorant doctor there and you health rests in whether you can now seek out a more knowledgeable practitioner.
"She won't do hormone blood tests as I'm 45+4months. Won't speak about menopause as my periods are still regular, even though they only last a couple of days now and are very light."
This is BS. Having regular periods has NOTHING TO DO with being peri-menopausal and needing HRT. Please do your research. You can have regular periods and still need HRT. I have regular periods and have been on HRT since the age of 42, with nothing abnormal found in my blood results - including hormones.
The fact that your periods are so light and only last a couple of days is an indication that you have LOW ESTROGEN.
At 45yo, you are right on track for peri-menopause.
She is right that hormone tests are not needed - but they are not needed to diagnose peri-menopause and to prescribe HRT. In other words: IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS WHICH COULD (COULD!!!) BE peri-menopause, you should be given A TRIAL OF HRT. Without blood tests. Without being sent for all these further tests.
Honestly, this is such a burden on the healthcare system. Look at all those tests you've had done before being given the ONE THING you probably most need.
Please look at the Balance Menopause website and please research these issues thoroughly yourself. And then change doctor.

This is a newly qualified GP so it's quite sad that up to date info still isn't getting through 😪.
I'm on the Balance app and was going to go for a private consult at Newson but wanted all these other tests out the way first to rule out thyroid etc.
I was convinced my symptoms were MS and paid privately for a MRI so I'm prepared to do anything I can to improve my health.
I will have this blood test regarding bilirubin and then when results back I will make appt at Newson I think. That way I can go to their consult with lots of results.
-
You'll find Newson aren't really that interested in all those other results and tests because their default thing is to get you optimal on HRT and then see what symptoms you have left...
In other words, unlike the doctors you've seen so far who are assuming bizarre and unlikely diseases instead of the condition 50% of the population will go through and you are most definitely in, Newson assume things are menopause unless proven otherwise. So other tests are unlikely to be helpful and you're just delaying your recovery. I'd make the appointment now if I were you...
