Hello everyone, Im new here and presume ive been in peri for at least 3 years, maybe longer. The problem was, some of my earliest symptoms may have been misdiagnosed as other problems, such as fibromyalgia. Anyway, the issue that has finally made it abundantly clear to me that my life and body have changed, has been this burning uti problem but has been medically ruled to NOT be a uti, therefore considering my age of 48, topical estradiol has been prescribed. I will pick it up today and begin treatment. I am scared-scared it wont work, or will make things down there worse, and rhe fact that i will have to be on this med forever or face "fire crotch" for the rest of my life. Neither of these 2 are appealing.
Will things ever get better?
Is it all downhill?
Are all the billboards, magazine pictures, commercials etc of white haired, smiling women in their older years all a bunch of lies?....or is there some hope i may be happy and physically comfortable again?
Thanks in advance:(

Hello and welcome to the forum.
There are no steadfast rules to the menopause, some women sail through, others, not so much.
I've come through it without hrt but it hasn't been easy at times but we're all still here. :)
Do look at all the symptoms of meno, there will be some you would never connect to it but the lowering of oestrogen has many effects on the body, from reflux to allergies, getting yourself familiar with them will help you x

Hello InnerDimensions and welcome to the forum.
I was your age when my GP asked if my periods had changed. They hadn't but it was the first time that the prospect of the menopause has been mentioned. I bought a book written by a female MD and I was amazed at the range of symptoms that were associated with the menopause. Reassuringly the author pointed out that no one has all the symptoms and some women have very few or none.
Roll on twenty years and I have experienced about half of the symptoms which have come and gone.
I am now using a very low dose HRT which means that ' fire crotch' has reappeared to accompany my ever present mood changes!
We can't turn back time and be our old selves again but perhaps we can make peace with our new normal.
Take care.
K.

Welcome! Re burning and discomfort. The good news is that things can definitely improve with ongoing treatment. I am much older than you and was late menopause. I started to experience dryness and some discomfort in my 50's and was prescribed vagifem (along with HRT for other symptoms). It did get worse before it got better. This was explained to me as the tissues plumping up. It took probably a few weeks to get back to near normal and some tweaking of using vagifem/ estriol. Today I am comfortable. I do have the odd flare up, no where near as bad as before and I manage this by upping the vagifem for a short time.
Good luck

Will things ever get better you say, yes they will with vaginal atrophy treatment and its for life unfortunately.
Its the new normal for those of us who suffer this horrid condition, but you will get your life back!

Definitely agree I am likely to be on topical hrt treatments for the rest of my life. Personally,I didn't feel worse at all when I began, but with my gps agreement I use the topical cream every night - If I miss a dose I do miss it the next day, so uncomfortable.
My through is it something is affecting quality of life I need to try to improve that.
On ' full ' hrt ( 125 patches and mirena coil ) I did initially feel worse before it got better. Touch wood, I am more stable now hormonal than I have felt for years. Am also late onset now 57.
Oh, and. belated welcome! 😁 Have also replied on your fibro \LDN post
