Title: The VA saga continues....
Post by: SundayGirl on March 27, 2024, 02:31:38 PM
Just had a totally wasted GP appointment this morning when I went in to ask for intrarosa due to no longer getting on with vagifem and ovestin.

Went in full of hope that I'll soon be comfy again -- No such luck.

Apparently my GP can't prescribe. It HAS to be prescribed by a menopause specialist as (in her words) it contains testosterone  ::) :-X

Came out of the surgery, sat in the car and cried with frustration.

How long have U been trying VA treatment and how many times a week do you insert?

Will your GP be referring you then?

If you search my previous posts you'll get the story.

And yes but unsure of timescales.

 :-\ :'(.  Criky  :-\.

Oh sorry I spoke  :-\ - perhaps continue your 'saga' in the other thread so that Members can keep up ?  1 can alter the subject line if necessary!  1 shouldn't have to keep searching ............

I didn't mean to be short just as I'm sure you didn't mean to be sarcastic.

Keeping to one thread?? - I was unaware that we were only able to have one thread for the length of our time on this forum and had to keep adding to that continually.

As for your comment about searching  ::)

Hi SundayGirl
What a morning you’ve had.
I am about to start  Intrarosa, I had to request it from the GP and wait till they’d had a meeting about it 🤦‍♀️!! But it’s in the BNF book so is prescriptive from the practice. I know it’s more expensive and I think a lot of Drs have little knowledge of it. Would suggest that you maybe go back and say that you’re positive they can prescribe. Maybe it’s a regional thing ?? I’m in Kent. It’s a shame that we have to do all the leg work, but don’t give up. If need be, get an appt with the most senior Dr at the practice. Hope it works out for you

Thanks kathryn 🫂

Unfortunately the NHS formulary here has it on the black list which means it's not recommended to prescribe 😥

Just waiting for a referral to come through now. Hopefully my bladder, which feels like it's going to explode at times, will stay intact until then.

Members shouldn't have to search !  If one begins a topic on a topic it is best to stick to it so that responses don't get lost.

Members shouldn't have to search !........
I find this rather insulting coming from someone who likes to tell people to put the terms into the search box

Are you a mod/admin on this forum? If so you should have the ability to merge posts and topics.

If you are not, then please stop trying to bully people into doing things the way you like them done.

I was at Meno clinic this morning, to change Estring they put in 3 and 6 months ago, after disastrous experience with Vagifem, and it turned out I can't have it because of national shortage (?), so it's either back on Vagifem, which never worked, or Imvaggis with which I walked out but not tried yet.

I was told to get back to GP if any problems.

It felt as if I was kicked out after 15 years with them, now nearly 69, off to hospital if anything, categorized as an 'elderly'. ...with prolapse and, possibly, burning ..bits.

What a World!

Oh Sundaygirl, what a shame for you. I had no issues getting Intrarosa from my GP here in N Yorks, no specialist involved. You could try a consultation with Newson Health, they do online if you don’t have a clinic local to you. X

Exactly the same for me. With ongoing bladder issues not being resolved by months of daily vagifem, I asked for intrarosa. She said she can’t prescribe it. Only prescribed on nhs under “secondary care”. I presume that’s after a referral. But I know private menopause specialists prescribe it.

In the meantime I’ve been put on testosterone to see if it helps. After all, intrarosa converts from dhea to oestrogen and/or testosterone vaginally, so hopefully a similar effect.

I’ve actually stopped vagifem 4 days ago because I’ve had months of horrible external burning that I didn’t have before vagifem.

Well, now I know for certain that I react badly to Vagifem  :'(

After using absolutely nothing since January, the itchy, uncomfortable feelings started again along with the weird clumpy gluey discharge (like dried out Bostik  :o)

Thought it may be wise to do another short loading dose but had to stop after 5 days. The low abdominal toothache returned along with the bloated bladder pressure thing.

If anyone has any suggestions while I wait for a referral I would be eternally grateful.

Why do doctors make it so difficult to be fit and healthy?

I have a one!  ..bit odd by might work..

How about trying Sexual Health Clinic..?  Go and tell them you can't have sex!   ..after all it's all they seem to be worried about ..

And while there try to get Estring prescribed. Do not walk out withot a prescription...like I did..  Estring works really well! There are shortages now 🙄 but women get them somehow...

Best!
