Since 1980s I've been prescribed various kinds of anti-depressant medications. Initially the 1 four types caused such intense nausea that I had to stop within 3-4 days. eventually my GP found 1 that suited me for many years until it pooped out so I was put on others.
In the last few years I've been prescribed escitalopram 10mg at night, 5mg in the morning. After taken 2 of the latter my head has been whooshing when I move, I feel slightly hung over and at times, weirder than normal.
The 5mg is from a different Company from the 'usual' - DH Poh-pohs my idea that it's the change of company i.e. it might be the fillers or 'packaging' :-\
Help?

This happened to me with citalopram not the exact same side effects, but one brand in particular just didn't agree with me. I took the packet back to the pharmacy and he swapped them for a different brand and made a note on the system to not give me thar particular brand again. He said it can happen and I searched online and found it had happened to others as well. So this can defo be a thing. Go back to your pharmacy before you take anymore x

Tnx. It was hours B4 symptoms eased and even then, I hardly slept :-\
At least the buzzing, crackling and whooshing has stopped.
-
Are you going to change the brand?
-
Morning. tnx for asking. I went along to the surgery mid-morning, explained the problem and the brand was swapped for my 'usual' one. Symptoms improved by Sat morning.
OK since. Odd. I need to type a note to be added to my GP notes as well as reporting on yellow card.

Oh that's good. My pharmacist said he couldn't guarantee getting one specific brand (due to them shoppimg around due to price), but he was able to guarantee I wouldn't be given a brand I react to. So if you use the same pharmacy each time it ie worth checking in with them too. There are now two brands on my list of exclusions. People say it isn't possible due to active ingredients being the same but it definitely is!

DH is a research chemist and Poh pohd my idea ::)

What about different fillers being used? Or the way they compound / disperse the tablet? I reckon there are definite variables, there must be.
-
That's what he and I discussed. I would like to go round a factory to see exactly how our medications are prepared : like cheese probably, in large VATs.
-
Because I'm about to increase my escitalopram. I've just been to GP and asked for one specific brand only.
I was going to do this, then read your post - which reinforced I needed to do that. ;D
Glad you got sorted. So I had my GP put one brand on request, so I should now only ever get that brand.
-
Tnx I will do that. I've never had problems in all the years I've been swallowing it!
-
I've spent 20 mins trying to fill in the yellow card scheme on line - but the pages keep jumping until it's now back to step 1!!
-
Clearly they don't wavy to know! ;D

My 10mg packet is a different manufacturer but thus far, no weird side effects ::)

On Thursday I sent a note to the Pharmacist about the weird sensations and have also, today, spoken to them directly - I've been given a yellow card which is a flimsy, yellow piece of paper ::) and a note has been put on2 my medical records. Will still need to check that they haven't given me the same manufacturer though ::)
