Hi ladies,
Bit of a long story but I’m perimenopausal and have been on HRT for almost 2 years. Various regimes from Dr until I saw a specialist who told me I could take 100mg utrogestan continuously vaginally as I was getting terrible withdrawal headaches taking it cyclically. She said that taking it like that might help the fluctuations too. I am on Everol 50 patches
Anyhoo! Been on this regime for 2 months and this morning noticed blotchy rashes on my bum cheeks and down one leg. I also have itchy palms and scalp! The ones on my bum look like blotches and are sore to the touch. The rest of me just feel generally itchy and irritated.
I can’t get a docs appointment for 2 weeks so in the meantime do you think I should just stop the utrogestan? I’ve heard it can cause rashes so I suspect that maybe I’m having too much taking 100mg everyday?
Would love to know what you think I should do. Bit worried.

Ring the Specialist?
Could it be measles?
Or show it to a Pharmacist.

Thanks for replying. I rang the specialist and she is on holiday until next week and the earliest appointment is 15th March.
I could go to the pharmacy I guess. Just not sure how helpful they’ll be. I don’t feel ill at all so probably not measles?

Probably not measles then. MayB put the product names into the search box: individually : to read the threads that pop up.
U would seem to be sensitive to something in the product and U should't have to wait until 15th March. ::)

If it's an allergic reaction you should stop using it.

It may not be anything to do with Utrogestan. Could it be a viral rash ?

Are the blotches on your bum where you place the Evorel patches? It does say in the utrogestan patient leaflet that the mild, itchy skin rash should resolve itself within two weeks and that an antihistamine from the pharmacist would help calm it down in the meantime so it does sound like a fairly common side effect. Uncomfy though!

Thanks for your replies ladies - I went to the pharmacy earlier and I have shingles! So nothing to do with utro after all. Quite painful today and have been given antiviral meds so fingers crossed it doesn’t last too long.
There’s me blaming progesterone, as usual 😆

The anti-virals should ease some of the stinging pain. I get my shingles jab next week, have to be over 70 on the NHS but pharmacies sell it >:(

Shingles pain is horrible so I hope you soon recover. Have you been told to try to stay way from people? I had the pain but no rash which I didn't realise could happen.

I think that one should stay away from the elderly and young children. :-\.

It’s an awful constant pain isn’t it Taz2? Nagging is the word.
Thank you CLKD! The pharmacist said to stay away from anyone who has a compromised immune system or is pregnant but didn’t mention children. I don’t feel like going anywhere or seeing anyone anyway to be honest.
Fingers crossed these tablets help. Just hope I’ve started them early enough!

They are really good if taken within 72 hours of the rash appearing I believe. Which particular nerve route is the rash following?

Down my right bum cheek and right down my leg :-\ Aching really badly tonight.

That sounds nasty. I don't remember an aching pain more of costant electric shocks but mine was across my shoulder and round under my arm. Can you bear any clothing on it. Hopefully the anti virals will shorten the time it lasts for you. Is it blistering yet? Rest as much as you can.

I had that too whilst being on 75mg Evorel patch and 100mg Utrogestan. My doctor upped my Evorel to 100mg after the blood test confirmed I was still very low on estrogen, and the rash went away

Thank you Taz. Typically I’m really busy with work and self employed so not easy to rest.
The pain is more of stabbing pain today and I think they’re blistering. I can’t stand anything touching them so I’ve had my baggy pants on ;D
CKLD I’ve been taking paracetamol but not really helping that much.
Jessie_G I’ve been diagnosed with Shingles so turned out not be HRT related! I was too quick to blame the progesterone.

U can take paracetamol and 'nurofen' at different times of the day, mayB ring the Pharmacist for advice tomorrow?

Sorry for the late reply - been so busy with work today.
I’m sleeping ok, as long as I’m on my stomach. I actually feel like the drugs are starting to work and my blisters are drying up. Thank goodness!

Hey! I’m feeling better again today - the pain has eased quite a bit but still very tired.
Thank you for asking. It’s not much fun this shingles malarkey but glad I got the antivirals to cut it short a bit! Xx

I was itching all over in the evening and thought of you ::)
It's a virus so you may well feel tired for a while. Both Mum/in-Law fell which triggered the shingles ........ can't remember how long B4 fall and eruption though.
