Evening all. My GP recently ran hormone tests for me, main results are:
- plasma FSH 9.5 IU/L
- plasma oestradiol 676 pmol/L
- plasma testosterone level 0.7 nmol
- free androgen index 0.99%
For info, I’ve been perimenopausal since mid-late 30s ish, started HRT just before I turned 40, almost 3 years ago. Current regime of 3 pumps estrogen plus sequential utrogestan is working fairly well, however my libido is almost non existent. From what I can gather my testosterone levels are fairly low, but im not sure if my age has any impact? Thinking of booking a private appointment with a menopause specialist and was wondering if it’s likely testosterone supplement will be recommended.

I made the decision to pay for private consultation at Newson Clinic when I was struggling with libido and motivation. My oestrogen levels were 212 and my testosterone was 0.4. (I'm 60 and 11yrs post meno)
Newson do a 'Testosterone Only' appointment for those already stable on HRT so, as I was already using Oestrogel and have a Mirena coil, I opted for that. I completed a lengthy questionnaire ahead of my video call with their Dr, she had clearly checked my answers ahead of the 20min consultation and started the chat with advising me she'd be very happy to prescribe testosterone for me before talking me through the options and what to expect.
I'm happy to say my libido slowly returned, took about 2mths to get a tingle but now 5mths in I'm very happy with the results. What amazed me more was the effect on my motivation and energy levels, I hadn't realised just how lethargic I'd been feeling nor the positive effect testosterone could have!
I had a blood test three months in and my testosterone hadn't increases by much but, as with all HRT, if symptoms have been addressed then actual levels aren't important.
If you can afford it I'd definitely say go for it!
