I got a UTI about 6 weeks ago. Never had one this long before and I feel awful.
Since then I’ve been on 3 different antibiotics (one of them twice). A culture was sent off which showed that the bacteria is proteus rather than ecoli and that the first antibiotic Nitrofurantoin was resistant. The 2nd one Amoxicillin showed as sensitive but after 7 days hadn’t cleared it.
I then had trimethoprim but had horrible side effects (very dizzy and sick) so was taken off that after 3 days and put back on the amoxicillin 4 days ago.
Im still very dizzy. Need to keep taking this antibiotic until Friday but doesn’t feel like it’s working (dragging pain has come back.)
Has anyone else had a resistant uti?
Im worried what will happen if I can’t take the antibiotics either. I had some utis in my 20’s but not had them since.
I have started vagifem.

It may take 3-4 weeks of continual Amoxicillin B4 an embedded UTI begins to clear. At least the urine sample was sent off. You could ask your GP for an appropriate referral and do keep using the 'vagifem'. Hopefully both treatments will start to improve symptoms.
A low-grade infection may well cause giddiness. It is all the while or when you move? Or when laying down/rising ?
Do U have an appt with the GP/Nurse Practitioner soon?

Thank you for reply. I managed to speak to the nurse practitioner today. She think I may still be being affected by trimethoprim side effects but should ease in next couple of days hopefully.
That’s interesting what you say about amoxicillin possibly needing a month or so. I will finish this dose on Friday and then need to send in another sample on Tuesday.
