Bedfordshire have today announced that they will not send out officers to 999 mental health calls. This is going to be rolled out across England.
Who do they think they are - deciding which calls should be answered? Will they eventually stop going out to knife crimes ....... which may well be associated with mental health problems.

It's worth reading the whole article I think.. I have sadly been involved numerous times with a mentally ill family member having an episode, needing support and the police being called as there was nobody else. If this scheme works it will be so much better for all concerned. Obviously if there is a dangerous element to it then the police will attend.

Yes. Now wading through it.
However, we know that accessing mental health support is almost impossible . Waiting lists are long. Not enough staff to deal with individual problems. It mayB that the way to get help is for a sufferer to ring 999. Unless every Police Authority has the specified team to respond ....... and if they are already out on a call.
It's a bit like 'care in the community'. That was never going to work. Will wait for how this plan pans out ....... but not holding my breath :-\

Thanks for posting this and the links as it had passed me by. I've been reading round it the last few days.
Seems the model it is based on is from Humberside police who took over 2 years to pull it together. Our area seems to be gradually bringing it in and will have to see model they eventually adopt. Can only hope that it is for the better.
