Title: New HRT ?
Post by: TazisTaz on January 10, 2024, 03:49:09 PM
Hi, I`ve been on HRT 15 years now , I am 61. I started with Kliovance and was on that for approximately 8 years and then I started to use vagifem and Evorel Conti 50 patches, which I have been happy with. I had some intermitant spotting last year and after tests it was found that there were no issues and the spotting has stopped, but I was advised to change my HRT because of the potential of a thickening of the lining of the womb. I have been given 80 Oestrogel spray and Utrogestan 100 , once I read the leaflet for Utrogestan 100 and realised that I would have a withdrawal bleed , I went off off the idea of changing the HRT I was on originally, as it is very easy to use and no withdrawal bleed is involved. My doctor also stopped the Vagifem prescription and I  am not sure that was necessary. I am going to speak with my doctor this week because unless she can convince me of the merits of this change I would prefer to stay with my old HRT regime. I was wondering if anybody else had a similar change and what peoples thoughts were in general. I feel a bit in the dark , I also wonder if I should be on HRT for such a long time. My mother is 86 and still takes her HRT.

HRT can be for life, it's 'replacement' after all.

If a regime works and if investigations have been done without showing problems, why change?  If U were advised about potential thickening, there are options to have regular scans to check.

Why did your GP stop vaginal atrophy treatment?  There really is no need if it is required to keep symptoms under control.  We cannot overdose on oestrogen ;-).

Let us know how you get on.  Quality of Life is important and if it aint' broke?

Do read round, make notes.

"bladder issues" thread and those on vaginal atrophy will be a good guide.  No one should have to stop appropriate treatments.

You can take utro either on a sequi or conti regime. Assuming you're post meno you take it every day and don't have a withdrawal bleed. And if you have va you need to continue with the vagifem, without it it will only get worse.
