Title: Struggling after non invasive breast cancer
Post by: Mak1906 on November 13, 2023, 09:33:33 PM
I had a lumpectomy in July and I am really struggling with menopausal symptoms. The most difficult being hot flushes which seem to be constant and so bad overnight. Before surgery I was on a high dose of HRT but the surgeon advised me to stop this completely. I was also taking 100mg of Sertraline but this made no difference to the hot flushes. My GP has now switched me to 20mg of Fluoxetine which I have been taking for 3 weeks. There has been no improvement at all. Please can someone give me any advise of what may help me.

Why did the Surgeon suggest not taking HRT after surgery?  If it isn't oestrogen dominant and you don't need any further treatment, I can't understand why.    :-\. Do U get a follow up appt.?

It may take a while for the Fluoxetine to kick in.  I would ask for a referral to a dedicated menopause clinic for advice.

There is a train of thought that after breast surgery/treatment one should be able to opt for HRT as there are several ways of delivering it.
