Do all women who undergo hysterectomy require HRT after?
-
I would imagine it would depend if the ovaries are still functioning but don't quote me on that lol my ovaries were left and the surgeon said I'd probably hit meno quicker but I didn't, I was roughly 50/51

:thankyou: asking for DH - we had the discussion earlier ::)

It probably depends on how far the woman is into menopause pre-surgery. I went onto HRT about a month after mine but I had been a psycho with peri-menopause and fibroids/endo making my hormones mad so I wanted some slightly guaranteed time to feel more in control.

Has the regime helped Florrie2?

My husband said I'm much nicer to be with....
I've been thinking about this and there are plenty of women who can't take HRT so it isn't imperative it is taken after a hysterectomy. I suppose it is just being aware that the body is potentially plunged into menopause and putting a plan in place to manage it.

Assuming ovaries are removed it's recommended you do at least until 'normal' meno age to protect your heart and bones but this isn't the same as 'required to'. And you may want to mitigate the effects of oestrogen deficiency. If ovaries are left usually there's no need.
