Hi ladies, just a quick question for anyone that knows that can help. I am having my mirena out on Friday after 8 months, so I am going back to Utrogestan sequentially. I took it orally 2 a night before but I have heard that a lot of women take it vaginally at half the dose? So would that be the same routine as orally? As in take 1 a night vaginally on days 15-26 of my cycle?
Thanks xx

I think you need to be monitored with regular scans if you want to reduce the dose like that. The guidance says you need to keep to the same dose as oral, so 200mg days for 12-14 days.

Ahhh ok thanks, I'm only on estradot 25 so was wondering if just one vaginally would be ok, I would also be taking the mini pill everyday too for periods and contraception x

There are people on here who defo do take a lower dose, usually because of progesterone intolerance. But there is no confirmed evidence saying that it is more absorbed amd therefore less needed, so they err on side of caution and say same dose is needed. I have also been on a very low dose of estrogen, just one pump of gel which i think is equivalent to your patch, and I hate taking the 200mg, feels like overkill.

I know I dont like how I feel on 2 either, feel like a miserable zombie for 2 weeks, Shame I'm not getting on with the Mirena because its ideal for everything I need x

Hi
I take one tablet vaginally as advised by my menopause clinic. I could not take it anymore taking 200mcg orally.
I was as miserable as sin and very very angry and then anxious, I tried stopping HRT altogether think this was the answer, but it wasn’t.
It has helped taking it vaginally.
I take it 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off.
I take a very small amount of Estradiol and told this would be fine.
Good luck

As Penguin said, you need to be monitored if you go for less than the commonly recommended dose. I just replied on another thread about this. I just went back to vaginal Utrogestan every other day as I’m on a slightly ‘gentler’ regime for oestrogen. Hopefully this will work just as well for me as it did in the past - monitored by a consultant and through scan. x
