Title: Strange feeling wakes me at night
Post by: trandall on August 29, 2023, 08:36:03 PM
Hi ladies hope you are all ok, I wondered if anyone else gets awakened through the night with a jittery heavy feeling which goes as soon as I get up ? Almost feels like my chest feels heavy and jittery 😩 it happens every few months and can happen 6 times a night annd it makes me need to pee. and been sent for an ECG and received a clean bill of health. Feels like my heart but assuming it’s hormones any thoughts ?

One possibility is that it's anxiety.  Often physical symptoms can manifest even though you feel okay in your head.  Maybe make a note of when it happens and see if it coincides with any stressful situations.

Yep, I agree, cortisol surge, which in turn causes anxious like feelings

Hi Trandall I get something similar to this. I’d say about 30% of the time I have a hot flush I get a brief feeling of dread or unease, then my skin feels unpleasantly tingly. I also feel as if I want to wee and then the flush comes. I can have between 3 and 12 a day if varying intensities
At night I nearly always have one of these before I fall asleep which wakes me up ☹️
I’m taking Mirtazapine so not particularly stressed but for some reason my body pushes out cortisol (I assume).
If you’ve been given a clean bill of health, please don’t worry
Flutterby x

Thanks ladies I really appreciate your replies, I certainly have had another change recently and this all makes sense. I have dipped a bit with anxiety so it would make sense that this is happening at night 🥰

Like flutterby I take Mirtazapine, albeit a low dose, and as well as helping my anxiety it has really helped my sleep patterns. Not every night but so much better without the I assume, cortisol anxiety jolts.

Hi Trandall, have you tried any herbal sleeping formulas to get you through this difficult patch? It may help your body override whatever is surging amd stay atleast dozy enough to not fully wake up. I get those surges either when estrogen low or something unbalanced, wake up at 3am feeling weird and wired. I think low estrogen impacts cortisol or similar.
