Title: Old patch
Post by: Lin on August 27, 2023, 05:57:32 AM
Hi any experience or advice most helpful.
I have been on conti continuous hrt patches 50 for 5 years. (I'm 56) Worked great until recently been having mood swings and been quite sweaty. So I left my old patch on and also put a new patch on my other thigh. (So 2 patches on)  On the usual change day I took my oldest patch off and replaced it with a new one. I have been doing this for 2 months now and feel much better. Is this safe? How long do patches keep working?

Hi Lin. Welcome! The patches contain the amount of hormone needed for the time specified. In effect they are probably 'empty' once you get to changeover day so, although you feel better when you keep them on for longer, you are not actually getting any extra dose. If you feel you now need a higher dose you need to contact your GP or whoever prescribes your HRT and ask for this. Which patches are you on?
