Hi everyone,
About 14 days ago I moved from utrogestan 100mg to cyclogest 200mg continuous as utrogestan was causing me constant feelings of dread, it was awful. I'm also on 3 pumps of gel in the mornings.
My sleep for the first 14days on the cyclogest were great, then last night I started feeling wired and jittery and basically lay awake most of the night.
I've been taking the gel and the cyclogest within about an hour and half of each other in the mornings.
Would it be worthwhile taking the cyclogest in the early evening say and I've been wondering if maybe 3 pumps of gel is too much and that I may need to reduce to say 2 1/2 pumps of gel?
Any advice or thoughts would be grateful xxx

Hi. It's difficult sometimes for the body to adjust to a regime. Perhaps 3 pumps at a time is too much? How about 2 for 3 nights/mornings then add an extra the next? Many medications can cause jittery reactions, at least with HRT there is a little lee-way to experiment. 'Ativan' caused my Dad to become very agitated so that he needed to walk for miles.
Let us know how you get on. I used to awake in the early hours to see if I'd been asleep ::)

U won't do any harm to your body overall by experimenting. Little steps. If I have particularly bad pains, I will swallow 2 Nurofen, then an hour later a 3rd pill. That usually helps.
So trying HRT regimes to find out what might suit may well be of benefit.

Hi do you think it’s the Cyclogest that’s causing the problems ? I’m not sure if I’m right, but it seems that you have doubled the dose of progesterone ? X

Yes i wondered about the dosage as well dotty but havent been able to find an answer.
My Dr whilst lovely is not really clued up on hrt and im on a 6 mth waiting list for my first meno clinic appt xxx

Well Dotty, I've just found this leaflet online, its from, the independant pharmacy regarding utrogestan shortages and it's about using cyclogest in the meantime. if you scroll down it does seem to indicate to half the pessary to give a 100mg dosage

I think it says 200mg in the BMS document because they come in 200mg.
Have you tried Provera? Cyclogest is the same as Utrogestan so is likely to give you the same side effects.

Yeah, you're right, it's also I think as it's off licence for hrt, its normally prescribed for fertility and 200mg must be the starting dose. I've just cut one in half and used 100mg.
You know my Dr offered me provera and I've stayed away from it because I know it to be synthetic, but you're right as cyclogest is bio identical, but if the side effects are the same. I'm a bit scared of trying the provera to be honest xxx

Can someone tell me why on bms site etc it states that when using utrogestan vaginally that the recommended dose is 200mg. When ive used utrogestan vaginally its always been 100mg xx

Hi it’s because vaginal pessaroes only come in 200mg. Using the oral capsules vaginally is “off licence” and the BMS won’t state anything that’s off licence.

Ah I see. Do you know why cyclogest pessaries dont come in 100mg pessaries then as cyclogest is licenced for vaginal use xx

Hi the only licensed micronised progesterone for HRT is Utrogestan taken orally. All vaginal progesterones are “off Licence”.

You know you said that vaginal pessaries only come in 200mg doses. You know lots of women take utro vaginally 100mg every night is that why its off licence because of the dosage?

I've just had a look, sorry I should have checked before and the utrogestan 200mg vaginal capsules is for fertility use only, as in the case with cyclogest xx

Yes the vaginal capsules are produced for fertility. Have a look at the BMS document and it explains about vaginal use for hrt being off licence. It doesn’t mean that it can’t be used that way but it explains that it hasn’t been tested by the manufacturers for its efficacy that way.
