Post by: Mummytron on June 05, 2023, 08:14:32 PM
Hi all,
Is facial tingling a perimenopause thing?

Yes. Tingling, zaps and ants-crawling sensations. I went through a phase of it around age 41/42 but I don't get it anymore and it stopped even before I started HRT.

I've had this, tingling, burning, hot and cold sensation. Menopausal paraesthesia. Not just in face too, can be anywhere. I was getting it one side of face, then the other, then my belly. All very odd.

My tingling is in my feet mostly. Hands sometimes. And it's worst at night. But it can be anywhere.

Hopefully it is going to go away as I increase my gel...

Thats interesting, thanks all for replying.
Can you describe it?
Weirdly mine is only left sided, hot/cold sensation. I really don't like it.

Mummytron, mine was was always mainly on my right and hot/cold feeling the same as you. Felt almost like how sensation comes back after having an anaesthetic for a filling, although much much milder. Can feel kind of prickly too.

Funnily enough my husband gets weird face sensations occasionally too but only when he's really stressed. He's thinks it could be from tensing muscles and tightening neck etc.

Are you worried about it? I really don't think you need to be.

I've had weird sensation down one side of my face, like from under the centre of the eye down, enough that I checked in the mirror to see if my face was drooping  :o  it wasn't.  The doctor hasn't been worried and I started having it in 2010, when 40, and if anything it's eased off and only comes around rarely these days.  I didn't think I was in peri at 40, not until 49, but I did also have a lot of racing heart and stuff back then, so maybe it was.
(important for any readers to note that this sort of thing should always be checked with a doctor, but in my case he didn't think it was indicative of anything serious)

I think it probably is.  Some days both cheeks feel like they have a weird sensation = pins and needles.   ::). this can be from under neath both eyes down to the chin.

Yup, I’ve had this for 2 years. It feels like ants crawling on my face!

Penguin,
Yes I am a bit worried. Sounds perfectly normal and one to add to my list of many symptoms!
The doctor said they thought it might be a virus causing it.

It is.  A bit like the tinnitus, I feel it and wonder how long the sensation has been there  ::). I have had trigenimal neuralgia in one area which is sensitive at times = tingling.

You would definitely know! and so should a GP  :-\.  4 me it was a sudden, very sharp, intense, shooting pain through the trgienimal nerve  :'(, so severe that I would hit the floor.  This 4 me is more like a tingling.
