In January, I had a nasty cold and lost my voice for a week. Now May, I still have some chestiness and am coughing up green gunk, not all the time but when my chest loosens and I cough it up ( sorry too much information!). My nose needs blowing often and my ears feel as if they are congested.
On Tuesday I went to the GP. Temp and oxygen levels normal, chest clear, pulse normal, ears waxy. He couldn’t give me any idea why I am still coughing but felt it wasn’t an infection, so antibiotics wouldn’t work. Told me to take antihistamine for a month alongside Beconase steroid nose spray.
How long should I give it? Doesn’t seem to be clearing.
Making me feel so low as it has gone on for months now.

Green gunk is a sign of infection. Healthy body mucus should be clear. MayB speak to a pharmacist directly who can recommend a decongestant to put into a bowel - 1 heats it in water then sits with towel over head to form a cocoon to loosen up any mucus.

Sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly Donna. No wonder you are feeling so low. It sounds like you have a lot of mucus on your chest. I think CLKD's idea of talking to a pharmacist is a good one. I hope they can help you.

No, not yet. I am in Glasgow this weekend visiting my 91 year old auntie and my cousin.

Quick update.
I went to visit family in Spain. Sister in law, who is a doctor, prescribed a course of antibiotics. The gunk is less but my sinuses are still blocked and a snotty nose. Not sure where to go from here but will see how things go over the next few week.
Will try steam inhalation but hate it, as it makes me feel claustrophobic and that I can’t breathe.

I remember Mum holding her head over a bowl of steaming water and Friars Balsom with a towel over her head/shoulders. YUK. If U feel unable to tolerate this have U tried 'Vick' chest rub under the nose to ease symptoms a little?
ABs will help if there is infection present. Could you get an appt to see an ENT specialist? Would a hay fever nasal spray help? I have had post nasal drip for years :-X and 'beconase' helps. Also hoovering the bedroom makes a huge difference to my allergy sensations.
