Title: Hi I’m new advice needed pls
Post by: Clairesouthall on April 20, 2023, 09:00:32 AM
Hi I’m new and looking for some advice please. I’ve just started On sandrena 1mg gel - they are little sachets and I use one each morning spread on my leg. On day 14 of my cycle I started utrogestan 100 mg capsules taken at bedtime and these were taken each night from day 14 until day 28.  Im now on day 37 and haven’t had a bleed.  Do I have to wait until I have a bleed to start my cycle again from day one and then start the capsules again at day 14? Can anyone help please.  I can’t get an appointment with my gp to ask. Thank you Claire

I think you should to the 28 cycle even if you don't bleed. It might be that there isn't enough build up for a bleed this month or it might be that your own cycle is overriding the hrt one and you will bleed when your cycle dictates.

Hi clairesouthall,

I agree with sheila99. I would stick to the 28 day schedule, irrespective of bleeds,  as you need the progesterone to protect your womb lining if using oestrogen.

I started off on a sequential regime like you timed around my normal period occuring after day 28. The first couple of months I bled a few days after I stopped the progesterone. I wasnt sure if this was a natural bleed or a withdrawal bleed from the progesterone. But I soon started having bleeds whilst i was taking the progesterone and not after which I think is my own cycle overriding the HRT. I have had bleeds either during progesterone or after since I have been on HRT.
Apparently 85% women have bleeds on a sequi regime whilst 15% don't. I have a notebook where I keep a record of when I take oestrogen only and then both oestrogen & progeterone and also when I bleed. Its useful to do this so you can tell your GP what's going on in terms of a bleeding pattern when you have a HRT review.

Good luck

Hi carry on as normal with the Utrogestan regardless of bleeding.  If you’re doing two weeks of each then you carry on with that, don’t wait for a bleed.

Hi Claire,

Dotty is right with her advice I am on this particular HRT also but 0.5mg of gel.  I am on day 10 of the gel so far so good  :) And then start Utrogestan 5 days 2 x 100mg.
You maybe one of the lucky ladies that does not bleed  :)  I didn't bleed on Evrol Sequi but couldn't tolerate the Evorol Conti patches on week 3 and 4 terrible side effects to the progesterone so hoping this one suits me better!

Do you mind me asking how you have found the utrogestan?  I know everyone is different but I am just nervous about when I start it with having bad side effects to other HRT.
