Title: Cortisol rush?
Post by: lizzog on March 11, 2023, 12:58:54 PM
I’m 56 and hopefully in the final phase of peri- been like it since around 42 years old 🤦‍♀️
On estrogel two pumps and 100 Utrogestan a day.
I never have any issues getting to sleep but always seem to wake around 5 with my mind racing and some night sweats too/ even when it was -10c last night!
Does this sound like a cortisol rush?

hi

just found this regarding cortisol and early morning wakenings.

it bothers me also.

The main cause here is stress and high cortisol levels. See, our circadian rhythm directs our cortisol, an awakening hormone, to rise around 3am, in preparation for the next morning. However, if your cortisol levels are already high, which is a consequence of stress, then it's likely you will wake up.

take care xx

I too have this happen, but my time to wake is 4am and then never really go back to sleep :-\. I don’t suffer with night sweats……. yet

Mine is more that I’m sleeping lightly then waking at 5ish with my mind racing. I have been under a bit of stress but feels more hormonal

Yeah, my mind does the same and this is also the time that anxiety hits me too :-\

Could be a bit of both?? Stress and hormones

It could be. We’re (supposedly) moving house but not much happening so I think that’s on my mind 😬

Same here. We’ve been trying to move house since August last year and it is very stressful. We’re almost there now I think 🤞

Hope yours gets sorted soon then. Maybe things will improve then?
