Hi everyone. I'm new here and all of this is very new to me. Feeling confused and unsure about what I'm going through so just wondering if other people have had similar experiences.
I'm about to turn 42. My periods went haywire a couple of years ago with bleeding between cycles. The cycles became heavy and very irregular. I've had night sweats around my period since my early 30s so didn't really think much of it. However in the last few months I've been getting really low, depressed, and irritable for around 2 weeks out of 4.
4 weeks ago I stated getting terrible hot flushes all afternoon and evening and through the night. I've not really slept without waking every 2 hours in about 4 weeks.
Then suddenly, the hot flushes have stopped over the past 2 or 3 days, (still not sleeping though!) My period hasn't arrived but I've been getting cramping for about 5 days.
Just wondering if the hot flushes thing is normal in early perimenopause or would I be getting them all the time? Beginning to wonder if I now just imagined it all and I'm going crazy, except for the fact that I'm still floored with awful low moods.

Hi, no like any perimenopause symptom, they can come and go. I can go a week without any and then have them all day !
Try keeping a diary, you might be able to link symptoms to your cycle, at least for the first few years

Thank you for your reply.
I think I'm just feeling a bit unsure if I'm actually perimenopausal or not because my Dr doesn't seem to think I am because my blood test doesn't support that I am. I know that blood tests are unreliable but he's made me question my sanity! Especially with the debilitating depressive moods.

Hello and welcome to the forum. :)
You have peri symptoms to me. I find Drs often do not know anything about peri and will just say we are wrong when suggesting it. I had this issue when I was 38 and ended up being firm and insisting on trying HRT. I am sorry the Dr has not listened to you. You are not going insane. The depression and low moods are signs of peri too.

Thanks for the reassurance.
I will be doing some reading and research as it sounds like (as with most things health wise these days) I will need to help myself and educate myself before I get anywhere with the Dr!

You are not crazy! I had night sweats and hot flushes for much of my 40s and didn't know what was going on. Doh!! Now I look back, yeah, definitely perimenopause. I really sympathise with the sweats interrupting your sleep. I had the same thing...which got worse during actual menopause till I FINALLY got on HRT. (I'm currently trialling going without it...am 60...but the sweats are back sooooo...we'll see.)
Docs can be such a challenge. It might not be possible for you, but try to find a doc who knows something about menopause, perimenopause and isn't dismissive... Good luck!!

Bless you, I hope they subside for you.
Thank you!
