Title: Lansoprazole 15mg capsules
Post by: holidaylover on November 24, 2022, 08:59:14 AM
Morning Ladies,
I've been taking Lansoprazole 15mg capsules for some time now with no problems.  I ran out last week and due to a 'glitch' at my surgery didn't pick up my new prescription on time so had a few days without the medication.  When I did get my prescription from the pharmacy the doctor had prescribed me 30mg capsules!
So I had to wait another day until I got the correct prescription. Whilst I was taking the 30mg dosage (about 6months ago) I began suffering a bit from dizzy turns (might not have been the medication) so I asked if I could reduce my dose and all has been fine.  However, I took a 15mg tablet yesterday and felt a bit 'spacey' within half an hour but that cleared as the day went on.   I have now taken one this morning and again I am feeling a bit weird (kind of spacey but slightly agitated, if that makes sense.)  Can someone who takes the 15mg capsules confirm what colour they are please.  I was sure my last ones were yellow and these ones are white.  Don't know whether this is all in my imagination  :-\
Thanks

I take the 30 and they are a white/beige colour. I wonder if different brands have different colours. :o

Thanks Flossieteacake,  perhaps that's what it is.  Just finding it strange that I'm feeling like this now when I have been taking them for quite some time with no side effects.

If it's from a different manufacturer they can be a different colour x

Ooh, didn't think of that but have just gone and checked the pharma company on the side of the box.  The new ones I have been given seem to be from a company called TEVA.  The ones previously (as I have some old 30mg one I stopped taking, but the same box as my most recent 15mg one) is Milpharm.  Surely the same medication from different companies shouldn't have different side effects?   :o

Could it be you feel unwell and it is a coincidence you took these?

I really think it's the tablets.  I'm feeling fine now, exactly like I did yesterday.  I'm not going to take one tomorrow morning and see if I still get the spacey feeling.  If I dont, then I think I'm going to speak with the pharmacist to see what they think.

That is a good idea. How odd though to have a reaction when you have taken it for so long and been fine. Keep us updated.

Good idea,it's probably because you stopped them suddenly and now your body is going....hello? What's this?

It could be the fillers or outer casing rather than the active ingredient which is likely to be the same.

Mine are white capsules 30mg and Accord written on the push out foil but Almus Pharmaceuticals on the box.
Personally I'd never take them again, so many awful side effects.

Dierdre, how horrid, did you manage to get something else that helped?  Here is an update - I went to the pharmacy today and spoke with the pharmacist with regards my side effects.   He said some people just can't tolerate even the slightest change that can be made in a drug, and that my system obviously couldn't process whatever it was.  My original tablets are difficult to get now but he is going to try.  He has made a note that I should not have the other ones again, so it's going to be trial and error really.  He had a half opened box of my originals left so has given them to me for now.  I did notice the new ones are made up in England and my original ones made up in Madrid.   So, thank you very much Brexit!! And I was right, the first capsules were yellow and the new ones white.   It's not a repeat prescription so I will need to go back to the Doctors in a couple of weeks to get another lot of tablets.  I would really rather not take anything at all and my problem is that I have never actually been diagnosed with anything yet.  The pharmacist thought it sounded like a hiatus hernia as I get the pains and palpitations.  I will push again for the endoscopy for which I have been waiting for since last December.  Apparantly, I am not an urgent case!!!

Oh I see, so it must be the different things that are added to this brand? I am glad the pharmacist was so helpful and will ensure you get the ones you are okay with. I am sorry you are still waiting for an endoscopy. Just to say, I have a hiatal hernia and find many foods trigger it so perhaps it would help you to keep a food diary just to ensure you know which foods could be triggering your symptoms.

Hi Flossieteacake, I keep starting the 'food diary' and then forget to keep it going.  I seem to get a reaction just everytime I eat.  Going to start back on the Gaviscon after each meal again.

I know that feeling. I have had to totally give up onion, garlic, tomato and they are in most foods. I hope the Gaviscon helps.

Oh for goodness sake, isn't having to take medicine poop! We just accept everything we are dished out without question and it's such a minefield. Quite scary really when you have no option.  I hate my aging body.

I just take Rennies at the moment for heartburn and I'm not having to do this every day now. Food isn't my problem, it's anxiety related causing stomach acid and I'm trying to do everything to relieve this.
My original prescription for Lansoprazle was during a telephone consultation then referered to an out of hours practice that I'd never been to before for the prescription.
I'm reluctant to ring my doctors for anything now as I have to start ringing at 8am, it's then a miracle if I get in the queue, wait for the recorded message to tell me I'm not and then have to redial. Continue until 8.20am then the message says there are no more appointments.
I've never known things to be as bad as this with the NHS !
I just Dr Google now 🤣

Oh Dr Google, I know him very well!  We are the same with our surgery, it's a nightmare to get an appointment, and I can never make up my mind if the problem lies with the doctors of the reception staff.

The Reception staff get the blame even though they didn't devise the system brought in during covid. They still act as triage  and you have to explain your symtoms and they then decide if you need the doctor or a Practice Nurse. Then you just get a telephone consultation and the doctor decides if you need a face to face appointment. Before I just booked an appointment to see the doctor on line on the day.
I did think of changing to another surgery, there are two others but they're just as bad.
